Of course, that would mean a lot less media positioning and ad sales, which at this point feels like the entire reason for the CFP committee to exist.

07.12.2025 19:48 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think 12 teams is fine. 16 would be fine too (not adding to the length).
The problem is the selection. Conference allotments should be predetermined, not left to the whims of human-biased opinion. An objective ranking system should replace opinions.
With a new horde of people shamelessly using chatGPT to skirt through education instead of doing work themselves, it should come of no surprise they then also feel entitled to steal the work of other people.
Sucks massively, should be shamed massively!
Georgia, champions of the 3rd best conference in non-conference FBS performance, is objectively the most overrated team (according to game data from Sports-Reference).
Bettors be wise, avoid the Dawgs.
That's one closely guarded secret! Thank you. Love the work.
07.12.2025 19:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Objective margins for offense/defense/points/turnovers/penalties weighted against schedule have the top 3 teams as Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon. Overwhelmingly, I'd say yes.
07.12.2025 19:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Does FPI include any subjective data like preseason rank / poll / other opinion-based data like recruit grade? If so, it's understandable for chasing predictionsโbut inclusion of the subjective at any point feels a bit disingenuous for actual ranking.
07.12.2025 19:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0To be clear I am not slut shaming Hunter Yuracek. You go girl. But maybe let's not have actively employed conflicts of interest determining a playoff field.
07.12.2025 19:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Instead we have the #CFBPlayoff committee, essentially the equivalent of a student council where the president is actively dating 5 of the options for prom king.
07.12.2025 19:12 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 012 teams would be just fine if we used an objective means of determining the field.
07.12.2025 19:10 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A chart showing Indiana as the favorite against Ohio State at 58%, with the Hoosiers more likely to win across low scoring matchups.
For doubters, this simulator based on Sports-Reference.com data also had Indiana over OSU at 58%, winning the overwhelming majority of low-scoring matchups, while OSU won when scores went high. (I botched the chart title bc of toddler-juggling ๐ตโ๐ซ)
07.12.2025 19:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yesterday Tech had a 93% chance to beat BYU. That's how great Tech is.
Run BYU against Texas A&M and BYU is favored.
These are both playoff teams, especially given the underrated quality of teams in the Big XII - in terms of per play performance margins for offense/defense/points/turnovers/penalties the Big XII was better than every conference except for the B1G.
07.12.2025 18:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The SEC was the 3rd best conference in out of conference FBS play. They did not have the hardest schedules (the B1G did).
07.12.2025 18:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The truth of the numbers is that Texas Tech is the best team in the country at creating turnovers and BYU is still better than half the SEC teams that were included.
07.12.2025 18:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's an opinion. I'm talking about on-field objective data.
07.12.2025 18:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0BYU is objectively the 7th best team in the nation for performance against strength of schedule (and I don't mean ESPN's tainted SOR, which is based on their totally subjective FPI)

07.12.2025 18:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The gripe is legitimate. ND was 4th in the nation for performance against schedule. They are objectively a bye week team, and a playoff without them is illegitimate.

A little club of clear conflict-of-interest opinions shouldn't be in charge of anything.

07.12.2025 05:01 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes yes, the chart title is a typo because I was juggling my toddler while simulating & correctly predicting the result of Indiana and Ohio State based purely upon on-field data.
They came into this week already objectively #1, they leave undefeated and now recognized as #1 by the media.
Calling this shot (even by 58.8% as favorite) reinforces objective data > subjective manipulation to chase being predictive.
I've never been so happy for my simulator to correctly predict a football game.

And they even came into the day as objective favorites! On field data > media rankings.
