I didn't really find out about pensions until I was managing a scheme for a small charity in my 40s. I'd always suggest getting advice. Leaving my small LGPS alone is one of the reasons I can cope financially now, but when I left it just looked like money I'd wasted.

Been there and done it. The alternative was being part of a teaching team half the size to do the same job. 2 years later and I'm still working through it (tho I'm older than you, from your pic). I'd always hoped I could manage a slowing down with a long tail, but capitalism doesn't favour that.

For most of my adult life, the Labour Party has pursued the centre ground as the pathway to power. Then once it achieves power, it has neither the mandate nor the internal authority to pivot left. Reform will not provide solutions, but Labour really has systematically abandoned those in poverty.

You just know that after a year something would go wrong, the guarantee would have expired and the manufacturer wouldn't be making spares. You'd spend the rest of your life walking around with a couple of wires poking out above your ears, wrapped in electrical tape.

I'm not Jewish, so I don't know for sure. But my understanding is that the idea of Jerusalem does not need to be understood as a literal geographical or political entity, and can be close to e.g. the Xtian idea of heaven/the afterlife.

I'm with you on this one. You don't need to say that an ideal is wrong to challenge the way a political movement has interpreted that ideology. It has the (in this case unintended) effect of closing down and alienating those who offer a more progressive interpretation.

I've just signed this. In the US, there's evidence that Palantir databases are used for large-scale deportations. The intentions of the current UK administration may be honourable, but imagine that capability in the hands of a repressive government here.

It is slightly irritating that the Guardian uncritically reports his claim that taxpayers are spending "an ever increasing proportion of our national income on out-of-work benefits” without pointing out that it is, in fact, false.
