I think a lot of my musings is making me antsy to work on something new; though I like Battle High 2 A+ Xchange so far, there's a staleness w/ it I'm struggling w/.

Yea. It's very the "i want ugly games made for less" or however that phrase goes -- people need to be willing to make those but also play those...just like people have to be willing to go out and find interesting art and not expect record labels to just spoonfeed them everything...

Yea. It's tough but I think that's def. a big challenge for devs of the genre, esp. those that want to try and make new ones. I think if you *want* to, it's fine; I still like developing them but the prospect of "selling" them feels daunting but in a way there's a 'freedom' to try new things.

The disdain a lot of new fighters get also influenced this thinking.
Ugly, boring, broken, imbalanced, arena fighter, not a real fighter, etc., etc., just sort of a genre that...esp. after recent news makes me feel like one devs don't even really wanna touch...let alone publishers...

I'm mostly being facetious but then also like...do we? Could the genre suffice w/ the hundreds if not thousands of fighters in existence already, some of which are still played?

But in regards to my last two posts and a recent though, if you distill any genre and games like it down with a dash of cynicism, you can make any genre / game sound stale and maybe the entire game industry...but...capitalism and number go up def. isn't helping that for sure...

and I have always felt that just because you're good at a game doesn't mean you can make / design that style of game.

Sort of the just because you can do something doesn't mean you can teach it.

But I have also feel fighting games lately are suffering from a similar staleness -- but I think Max and @rodf.bsky.social were sort of scratching the surface as to why regarding that.

Fighting Games designed by fighting game players have their own set of issues. Honestly, Max here makes a good point.

I personally believe there is such a thing as "over designing" a game, and it has creeped up on me in the past few years.

If u can replace something for less than 20 dollars in less than 20 minutes, you can part with it.

Don't love the "intended purpose" notion but I'm def. one of these people and don't really like RPGs...
My issue is the gameplay in fighters I like but not necessarily the social aspect...and it's a tough pill to swallow / understand but sort of why PolyFighter and similar ideas r cool.

people who want more single player things in fighting games do not play fighting games for their intended purpose but also probably hate RPGs
