Here’s my bottom line on the firehose of AI higher ed discourse: for the vast majority for us it’s over. “It” here is not “college” or “teaching”’per se; rather, “it” is the transactional underpinning of those endeavors. Let me explain: 🧵

Te Reo words are increasingly part of the standard New Zealand English lexicon. If we’re not teaching kids to recognise and decode Māori words then our reading program is lacking.

More cuts proposed at Ministry for Culture and Heritage The axe is hovering over historians and staff who create digital content used by schools and the public.

If we don't tell our own stories, we forget who we are. These fresh cuts save relatively little fiscally, but will cost us so much. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Mississippi libraries ordered to delete academic research in response to state laws - Mississippi Today The two research collections state officials ordered for deletion included material from professional journals, conference papers, books, student dissertations, periodicals and newspaper articles.

This is the literal destruction of knowledge.

Don’t change your subject headings. There is no library jail. Keep using the real names not these fake ones.

Obeying in advance is worse than those doing the change because when you obey with soenthing that is clearly wrong you are putting false information into official “fact” places.

ALA response to White House assault on IMLS
To dismiss the mission of an agency that advances opportunity and learning is to dismiss the aspirations and everyday needs of millions of Americans. And those who will feel that loss most keenly live in rural communities.
As seedbeds of literacy and innovation, our nation’s 125,000 public, school, academic and special libraries deserve more, not less support. Libraries translate 0.003% of the federal budget into programs and services used by more than 1.2 billion people every year. President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders.

This is so shortsighted. Libraries are more than books - they are safe spaces for students to study, the community to access computers, and for families to visit. They are community hubs, and a book clickncollect for 2 years is no substitute.

Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.

Please note there is an active petition on Parliament’s website to remove Destiny Church’s charitable status. It was started last year and closes Feb 28th – great timing! Go sign. And write to your MP. petitions.parliament.nz/a22e0d59-7da...

"He said healthcare in New Zealand was costing New Zealanders $6000 per person, suggesting people could get better value for their healthcare if that money went to individuals' own health insurance."

David Seymour is suggesting that people could get better private healthcare for $6000 per person per annum. It only takes cursory familiarity with healthcare costs to understand what a farce that statement is. 🧵
