And let's not pretend that these are good faith actors actually interested in engaging in a conversation about localization as a practice or art form, or the cultural nuances of describing a Japanese-centric focused on oppressive gender norms set in the 60s through a modern day lens.

"Patriarchal", given its most modern definition as systemic oppression based on male-dominated, gender-based status quo makes sense and also takes into account the limited amount of space they had to describe what Japanese can write in four Kanji characters.

I have not played the game, nor can I see all of the source text, but my guess is they're referring to 亭主関白. "Patriarchal father" is probably not the first term I'd choose, but the localization team has a much deeper insight into what the team is trying to convey.

All I want from this year's TGS is some Hades II and Pragmata cosplay. (But I'll settle for something from the Toby Fox-verse or EO33, if I have to.)

This is a thing at some places. Teams are led to believe one thing so they'll work to make deadline, only to be "gifted" more time in the 11th hour. By then, it's too late to really capitalize on it because your assets are locked or recorded.
