If you are a company that still advertises to your audience on Twitter, if you are a public figure who still uses it to reach your audience, if you are someone who uses it to keep in touch with your audience for your brand or your work...maybe think about who that audience is. Maybe get off Twitter.

The economy is on the precipice of recession. That’s the clear takeaway from last week’s economic data dump. Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting, and employment is set to fall. And with inflation on the rise, it is tough for the Fed to come to the rescue.
Unemployment remains low, but that’s only because labor force growth has gone sideways. The foreign-born workforce is shrinking, and labor force participation is declining. Telling is the economy-wide hiring freeze, particularly for recent graduates, and the decline in hours worked.

It’s no mystery why the economy is struggling; blame increasing U.S. tariffs and highly restrictive immigration policy. The tariffs are cutting increasingly deeply into the profits of American companies and the purchasing power of American households. Fewer immigrant workers means a smaller economy.
Moody's chief economist Mark Zandi says:
- We are headed for a recession
-The BLS data is totally reliable- for now
-The revisions are due to delayed reporting of DOGE govt layoffs
-Higher tariffs are dragging down the economy

Trump's plan to boost U.S. automakers is squeezing them instead
For now, the automotive winners of Trump's trade policies are Japan, the UK and the EU.
I think that effect could've been used by Trump, but the Trump admin is incompetent, so the tariffs aren't targeted to reward the few at the expense of the many. They're a mess, punishing people almost at random.
E.g., his ad hoc "deals" have put American car manufacturers at a disadvantage.

Lemme just say if President Bernie Sanders had unilaterally imposed, by executive fiat, hundreds of billions of new taxes, personally browbeat executives about job cuts and investments and then fired the head of BLS, the Chamber of Commerce and the business orgs would not be sitting idly by.

California's economy is already getting hit by immigration raids
The number of people reporting to work in the private sector in California has decreased by 3.1% — a downturn only recently matched by the COVID-19 lockdown.
I have to wonder how much of the collapsing economy can be attributed to the deliberate terror campaign in the nation's largest state, which has led to 3.1% of California workers—a big number!—not showing up to the job since ICE raids started.

Republicans voted NO and blocked the amendment.

When headline writers try to amplify "urban doom" vibes for clicks, they create factless news that their reporters will then write about.
See this great recent example from the @nytimes.com, where an "urban doom" headline is directly contradicted in paragraph 11 of the article. 3/

The Social Security Administration isn’t sharing data about the extent of the problem. I’m asking for answers.
