There are a lot of things drivers need to do better, but reading five lines of text while driving is not one of them. Any solution that requires a text explanation is not it, just like "push/pull" signs on doors

It's so strange to me that these "HAWK beacons" became common, when just having a normal light with a blinking green/solid red/blinking red etc. would have been way more familiar for drivers. Introducing a whole new way of doing traffic lights should have been a non-starter in terms of design

Finally, class-based segregation is a fundamental barrier to urban democracy and social justice. This is simply because democracy (urban or otherwise) requires at least a tacit acceptance that there is a shared fate and future within society (see Williamson Chapter 11, this volume). We need not embrace Aristotelian republicanism (which we do not, by any means, do) to think that democracy requires recognition of the existence of a mutually shared society. Such understandings of a shared fate in society also benefit a great deal from unmediated interactions that are most likely to occur in shared spaces.

one of the worst problems about cars in the US. there are so many negative side effects - bigger parking spaces, heavier vehicle weights, extra emissions, worse outcomes in collisions - but perhaps the most dangerous effect is how their drivers cannot see the road around them.

"what's hot" used to be the default discover feed but its, um, sordid past made them change algorithms 😬

there's no trending page but you might be able to find some custom feeds that replicate this to some degree. if "discover" is too close to the following feed you could try "what's hot classic" (which used to be extremely chaotic lol but it's fairly normal now)

so many disgusting things about his comments & this interview, where he changes his story from one response to the next. it seems clear from his approach that he doesn't actually want to "have discussions"; he just thinks trans people should have fewer rights
