and the battle talus in the remake is evidence that they went back to the well and failed again to acheive their goal there
its obvious in retrospect why sotc uses such a floaty hero gravity jump "arc" and why the climbing in sotc is purely a staple/unstaple button that works on designated pathways (hairy grundles, etc)

monsters are just too wiggly unless their size is large enough that any surface has a really obvious angle/incline
and then you battle w/ the monster moving for any action while the player engages
im one of the (i'd write few but now there is an enormous "Peak" fanbase) botw climbing mechanic enjoyers and i don't know how you could marry the mechanics of botw stamina management to enemy climbing

if nintendo wanted botw to have a true sotc homage the mini boss monsters would have needed to be much larger
probably a good idea for them to provide an overall buff to melee damage as the game had really stagnated on duchess/recluse and sorcerer's rise/fort farming / spamming

its now much easier to load up some sets with guaranteed spells/incants, and revenant's historically useless passive (probably?) works against both of the new bosses
really like the two additions to nightreign
kind of silly to see the two new boss relics though
they really had to pull a night-of-the-fathom again
i wonder if they're aiming to give players more quick slotable relics rather then give players any control over the relic randomization
nothing that a sharpie can't fix

took me way too much wandering around to get the last wish of act2 to trigger, and i won't get to find out what detail i was missing until i finish the first unspoiled playthru
still have to practice the panthon 4 boss (pv) and then get a good run in with my weak charm build. but all the silksong i've been playing has made that boss feel less threatening
i wonder if a silksong "light" charm build would work to bridge the gap
made a small breakthru on hk pantheon 4
i do think i missed out a bit on hk charm builds because they made everything more expensive over time
i have been enjoying the (tools) more in silksong
though it feels like some red tools are the standouts / the most useful
its nice to equip 9 "charms"
its a real foible where i think gameplay / combat designers need to remember that the parry should be on a button that is aggressive or otherwise unused and to have punishing consequences for missing it to prevent over use
01.12.2025 22:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0i'd rather learn a slightly tighter activation window for a parry and minimize variance by standing in place, compared to adjusting a dodge live on positioning AND tracking, and the recovery time of a dodge meaning nothing can follow it up (parries usually leading to qte takedowns or free openings)

but modern designers have tightened the windows on dodges and made them more reliant on iframes to avoid attacks, meaning that parries have become more attractive as dodges have gotten much worse

i can see the impatience excitement of having "all bosses no upgrades" right there with a big fat reset button
but its just bad for >my adhd< to not have a map /game too
steel soul is just more interesting to me then pantheon 5 and potentially even p1-4
(though i understand they added the bindings to try and give players that feeling like you're speedrunning / steel soul running and trying to do bosses early with less resources)
i had to give up on caring,
i can do steel soul (blew up 2-3 attemps early so far) and i can theoretically secure one good run at pantheon 4 for 112%
but i have no framework in my body excited to fight 50 bosses to unlock 1 new hall-of-gods fight, or to practice that fight enough to do all p5
its just different from being thrown into 3-5 boss fights in a row where you're forced into optimal charm builds and spamming the most damaging attacks/strategies
its less fun for me to cut through five easier bosses to fight one new interesting boss
i understand i'm missing lore from both endings
when you take away the exploration and secret hiding and commiting players to trying to minimize resources and time to boss attempts, or let players meander around soaking in the world and finding an easier time with bosses after getting key upgrades

i understand folks got kind of crazy about hk over the years
lots of challenge runs and crazy challenges attempted by players and streamers and champion players etc
but hk gives players a lot of ways to engage and challenge themselves in its normal gameplay
