Anyone have a map of Alberta sans Indigenous Treaty lands? If I recall correctly, that doesn't leave much to separate.
It's so interesting to come back from a totally disconnected holiday to find our government making plans to actively lose funds (cutting 407 toll fees) and also invest in something we really don't need (401 tunnel).

What does this headline mean to you?
"Detained students sent to remote ICE facilities in Louisiana accused of human rights abuses"

Wouldn't it be nice if journos and news outlets took more care with their headlines to reduce ambiguity?
(It's the facilities.)
Elbows up, Canada.
22.03.2025 22:11 β π 52587 π 13435 π¬ 1500 π 2315Indeed. I'm excited for this election, similar to my positive outlook toward the first election I voted in after becoming of age, and that time they let me vote in a UK election.
22.03.2025 03:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I was never much into the "I was today years old" but I was today years old when I learned my partner of 15 years doesn't know - has never heard - Bust A Move until today. Who am I even married to?
(This is a joke.)

20.03.2025 12:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What is going on without Toronto's schools? This plus recent unexpected closures of some tdsb schools due to emergent needs to repair electrical and plumbing should be concerning to all parents.

10.03.2025 14:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, when can we expect the PM to go to the GG to kick off the process to draw up the writs?
I'm ready for our next general election.
I don't know exact figures but there are plenty, sure. Within my own circles, I can think of several off the top of my head. There's a long history of Scots in Canada. The Scottish were among the earliest settler groups here.

You're always welcome here, too π
This is a gift article so I will pass it on. I am glad I am not in the US. I use many of these words to describe my research on older adults with dementia and the law (eg. disability, mental health, discrimination, etc).
10.03.2025 00:19 β π 4 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0We don't take threats to our sovereignty lightly.
We're not that different, Scotland and Canada, but how about a trade? I miss my time in Scotland π
Ah, so there's hope for brown eyed contenders yet!
10.03.2025 00:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They could have used acuant, treefort, vaultie, realaml, syngrafi, eID to name a few. All the law societies in Canada have publicly available lists of these softwares and many licensees who can attest to which ones work best.
10.03.2025 00:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That it works well should have been the main feature. The in-person verification is helpful (although again, there were issues for people verifying in person as well).
There were ~400,000 registered liberals leading into the vote. The final vote count was how many?
It feels like they chose the worst possible ID verification, and I think they only chose it because it's Canadian and enabled people to also complete the verification in person at the post office.
10.03.2025 00:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There were problems throughout. From the very beginning of the registration period.
10.03.2025 00:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is a shame that someone as smart and well performing as Karina Gould doesn't get more than 3%(!!!) of the vote, but if this result is indicative of how Poilievre gets defeated, I won't complain.
09.03.2025 23:25 β π 110 π 1 π¬ 8 π 0There were news pieces on this. Several people couldn't pass the verification either in person at Canada Post or on their phones. Many who did get a pass on their verifications never received a ballot.
10.03.2025 00:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We'll never know. But people tried to get help from the party and got nowhere. No responses from the Party's listed assistance email.
The least they could have done was explained what the issues were instead of repeatedly touting, "the system is working as expected" when it clearly wasn't.
Dark.
