I've covered a lot of protests and resistance movements of various kinds in my days on this earth -- I've never seen anything quite like this epic day in Minneapolis today.

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.

TODAY IN MINNESOTA: Hundreds of thousands marched through Minneapolis in -10°F, shutting down the city to demand ICE the fuck out of the Twin Cities. People risked frostbite just to make their point. The entire country should be ashamed if they don’t follow.

Over 1000 businesses closed protesting ICE terror, organized by labor and the community, before the stock market opens.

Over 130 actions in cities across the country, all organized in the past week.

The market may ignore it, but today is too big for the administration to brush off.

On this episode, we round out the strikes of 1934 by discussing the Toledo Auto-Lite and Minneapolis general strikes. The pitched battles fought by workers across the country terrified the ruling class into accepting some of the most pivotal labor reforms in US history. Fighting scabs, company thugs, police, and even the National Guard, workers with nothing to lose in the midst of the Great Depression struck back against their exploiters and won victories that echoed for decades. Organizing such massive endeavors is never easy or quick, but there are so many lessons we can take from our comrades of the past to help improve our efforts today.

ICE has stopped paying for detainee medical treatment Despite ample funding, the agency halted payments in October. They may not resume for several months.

Under the law, ICE is required to provide necessary medical care for the people it detains, often using third-party providers to do so.

ICE, however, has not paid any third-party providers for medical care for detainees since October 3, 2025.
