Yesterday, after a lawsuit backed by the AFT, the Trump administration dropped its appeal, ending its attempt to force schools to censor lessons, abandon student supports, and rewrite civil rights law.

Thank you, AFL-CIO, for convening this annual event! Gathering to share best practices with fellow unions & AFT locals is a fitting way to embody Dr. King’s legacy.

Passing S.2132/H.3427 will ensure that MA joins the seven states that commemorate his courage and civil right advocacy with the celebration of Fred Korematsu Day. Thank you to Sen. Eldridge and Rep. Uyterhoeven for filing this legislation and to Fred's daughter, Dr. Karen Korematsu, for joining us.

81 years ago, Fred Korematsu stood up to injustice and cruelty by challenging Japanese internment during WWII.

President Tang was honored to speak at Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties & the Constitution, lifting up our collective work as educators to help pave the path to more justice & equity.

AFT MA will always fight for our students and communities. We are ready to use every tool at our disposal to protect our educators and students from the current fiscal crisis. 3/3

Without intervention, our schools stand to lose significant funding, including $50M in Boston, $9.4M in Lynn, and $5.7M in Chelsea.

We urge the state to protect our schools and students by providing the support and resources to help these districts fill these enrollment-based shortfalls.

President Tang testified at today’s BESE meeting, highlighting the fiscal cliff our schools are facing while they navigate over $120 million in federal funding cuts.

Further crippling budgets is the current immigration climate, which has resulted in dramatic drops to attendance and enrollment.
