Stunning photo there!
05.05.2025 09:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If they're so great, I'd hope they might also master the art of being concise.
02.04.2025 07:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So basically close the platform down then.
I mean, I don't disagree...
Sad but very much true.
26.02.2025 10:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My grumpy old man answer is twofold: firstly, I agree with you. Secondly, it seems like for some people, that is the exact point: they no longer need to think.
13.02.2025 08:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Whilst I wholeheartedly believe in having an abundance of real trees, greenery and so on in urban areas (it's good for us!), I have absolutely no objection to hiding the less glamorous infrastructure in plain sight like this.
12.02.2025 09:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0That's pretty smart. At least based on the picture alone, it's relatively convincing based on just a casual glance. Smart choice to model it on an evergreen so the 'leaves' don't look too out of place even at this time of the year.
12.02.2025 09:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Is it legitimate to allow a whitespace character as the first char of a password? Can a password be all whitespace?
10.02.2025 14:32 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm not sure whether I'm qualified to tell you whether you're right or wrong though - it might well be me! But I'd need to be convinced why ๐
10.02.2025 14:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Not that I ever recall. I remember specifically having the thought not to do it - in particular, I remember in the past having an MVC binder which auto-trimmed (most) strings - because I considered whitespace a valid part of the input in that instance.
10.02.2025 14:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I can't imagine why not. That said, I'm not sure I'm brave enough to actually try it.
10.02.2025 14:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hot Take of the Day - (micro)services and modular monoliths are not mutually exclusive architectures
a module in a monolith could be defined/built/owned by a microservices, while the other modules could be purely defined inside the monolith
As someone who remembers when "being on the computer" most definitely was its own activity, and who's entire job now is literally using a (proper) computer, I agree with this so much!
16.01.2025 13:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0... daylight hours are short, getting up to the alarm is more difficult, and travelling to/from work is in the dark (or near dark). I'll probably sound a bit hippie but I think if we worked more with the natural cycles rather than trying to enforce 'order' on it all, we'd be happier and healthier.
13.01.2025 10:59 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Absolutely agree. I'd also add that (in my opinion anyway), the whole thing is just not natural, even when we're considering 'normal' 9-5 style hours for 5 days a week. I don't think humans are designed to work that way on an ongoing basis. I think this is noticeable at this time of year when ...
13.01.2025 10:59 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Let's stop valorising long hours at work:
- overwork is usually unnecessary, the result of poor planning;
- overwork results in poorer work, particularly in creative endeavours;
- overwork harms the worker's mental health e.g. burnout; &
- overwork harms the worker's family.

Just updated my handle to be my website domain, so you can tell I'm definitely myself here. Not than anybody would want to impersonate unimportant little me. Quite a clever and interesting way to verify legitimacy actually.
10.01.2025 09:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Never thought about it this way before but you're spot on here! Funnily enough though, this is probably also one of the main reasons I struggle to enjoy it (I'm usually a big sci-fi type but BSG felt a bit of a slog).
09.01.2025 13:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The obligatory first post on a new platform... I'm a software developer living in the UK who enjoys being out in the woods with a camera trying to take some reasonable shots. You can also find me on my website (markembling.info) or on a number of the other social platforms.
