with batteries at $100/kWh and wholesale solar at $400/kW, you could buy 5 KW of solar and 15 kWh of batteries for the price of building 1 KW of this gas plant... and that’s before the cost of gas to keep the thing running

I am once again here to remind you that tariffs are just a tax on the middle class.

Ossoff: "There are some folks who are doomscrolling in the fetal position. Every day there is a new outrage. It's easy I know to fear that maybe we could lose our republic. I think what John Lewis would tell us is it's up to us. We have the power to right the ship. Nobody is gonna do it for us."

Remember Trump’s past talk about abolishing the income tax and replacing it with tariff income? It sounds outlandish, but it’s rooted in a longstanding effort on the US right to replace progressive taxation with regressive taxation, while starving the parts of the government that help the non-rich.

Americans are more likely to say AI will have a mostly negative effect on the economy than to say its effect will be mostly positive.

This is a truly horrifying memo. It says that the policy of the US government will now be to proactively seek out and arrest likely tens of thousands of refugees who entered legally under Biden and subject them to detention, where they will be interrogated about their status.

So, the US govt approach is:
*We are going to scan tourists social media accounts and deny visas because of content we dislike, like mocking Trump
and
*We are going to allow foreigners a work-around to consume social media content their governments have banned, including hate speech

Mark Zuckerberg Tries to Play It Safe in Social Media Addiction Trial Testimony The Meta CEO stuck to a playbook of repetitive answers and buzzwords in a landmark trial in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

In his first testimony before a federal jury, Mark Zuckerberg stuck to a playbook of corporate talking points. But he didn't seem to expect references to his last Joe Rogan interview or a question about what exactly "addictive" means.

Any Republican or Democrat who continues to support Palantir, takes money from them, or refuses to hold them accountable is not your friend and should not be supported.

Sorry to get radical but I don’t think it’s my job or yours to embrace, accept, understand - and certainly not to use - the thing being sold to us as AI. I don’t like any part of it, so I won’t. I’m missing out? Good, that’s what I want. You’re worried about me missing out? That’s fuckin weird, man.

Hey Benjamin, you're getting some suff wrong here, starting with framing me and my colleagues as "AI skeptics". It's true that we call BS on claims of AI, AGI, LLMs understanding etc. But "AI skeptic" is a term that resides within the AI booster's frame of view, not ours.

"AI skeptic" is unhelpful because it:

1) Minimizes contributions Bender, Gebru, Mitchell, and others have made to our understanding of LLMs (untold hours of research and writing boiled down to "skepticism")
2) Sounds like they are denying the merit of something with merit like "vaccine skeptics."

We just found out our AI has been making up
analytics data for 3 months and I'm gonna

So we've been using an Al agent since November to
answer leadership questions about metrics. It seemed
amazing at first fast answers, detailed explanations,
everyone loved it.
I just found out it's been hallucinating numbers this
entire time.
Our VP of sales made territory decisions based on
data that didn't exist. Our CFO showed the board a
deck with fake insights. The Al was just inventing
plausible sounding percentages.
I only caught it by accident when someone asked me
to double check something. I started digging, and
holy shit, it's bad.

Why do we even have an #NBA dunk contest anymore? It’s been a pathetic shell of its former self for over a decade. If you can’t incentivize actual all-stars to participate, then just be done.
