does it make rational sense, to blame a US senator for the state’s problems? No. Do GOP senators get the same treatment? Also, no. But it is what it is.

People get mad when I say it, but “California Dem” is a bad brand on the national stage, and regardless of your platform or tone, lots of voters will think you are more ideological than you may really be.

To take a milder example: serious minds will discuss the details and strategies and perils of police abolition/security sector reform, and have a fruitful conversation. Gen Pop will take it and say “no such thing as criminals, all crime good” OR “abolitionists want chaos, terror in society”

Anyways, someone out there in the world might mostly experience the gen pop version of that School of Thought, and express some concerns or challenges about how gen pop talks about it, and then people say "oh wow, you must hate the school of thought itself, not a good look, chief".

There will be a school of thought that says "here's some essential dynamics btwn Group A and Group B, with lots of nuances and exceptions". And then there's gen pop, who will read infographics and let their egos run wild, and say "Group A is good and moral, Group B is evil and untrustworthy."

There's this thing in the modern world, between "intelligent people's understanding of something" and "gen pop's poor approximation of the thing."
