I am begging everyone to please make a pledge to refuse to be demagogued again re "crime" and "law and order." Let this be the last time you fall for the bullshit.

And just because you’ve published independently, that does not mean you are equipped to publish others’ work yet.

At FMP, we want to publish books. But not until we’ve learned enough to be able to do it well. For now, we stick to anthologies. And that’s the ethical thing to do.

A publisher should NOT ask you to pay to be published. A publisher should NOT be publishing you just to add bulk to their catalogue to prop up the owner’s work.

This destroys trust between indie authors and presses. This makes unethical industry practices even harder to recognize for people who may lack the knowledge, resources, and/or connections. And he is specifically targeting marginalized authors to build himself up.

It is extremely frustrating as a disabled owned fledgling indie press to see Paul Castle take advantage of indie authors who likely feel aligned with him because of shared lived experience.

The horrors may be never ending, but we still have art to contain it and imagine a world beyond it.

Our blog, The Catalyst is seeking artwork and writing to publish throughout the day on July 4th that proudly stands against the bombing of Iran by the Trump administration (and the destruction of the Middle East at large).

The police are there to protect the State and Property, not you. This government is allowing ICE Officials to be anonymous—this will only embolden more violent impersonation.

The man who assassinated Rep. Hortman & shot Sen. Hoffman may or may not be a police officer. It doesn’t matter. What matters is you recognize sooner rather than later that the man who took those actions is not an outlier.

Power works through shaping narratives. Narratives shape our communities. Our communities shape us. Our creative work, and the narratives we weave with it, will always exist in conversation with history, culture, and community. We cannot and do not create in isolation.

Fortuna Major encourages political action through creative education to support liberation movements. We must honor the lives of those who came before us by embodying the futures we seek.
