imo it only really makes sense if you are treating a TTRPG campaign like an open world video game you can save and reload, even within the highly dnd-centric context it was coined. Applying it to games actually primarily built around keeping a story moving in a reactive world is just ridiculous.

I believe it's something like "If the players go this way, they get attacked by bears. If the players go the other way, they get attacked by the same bears. Until the players have decided where to go, the bears are in both locations simultaneously and thus the player's choice does not matter"
