Coquitlam #SueBigOil supporters gathered at Coquitlam City Hall today to urge @cityofcoquitlam to explore recovering a fair share of the city’s costs from the world’s largest polluters instead of passing those costs on to taxpayers.

1/2 Well, #BillC-5 just passed in the #SenateofCanada without amendments, but with a government commitment to amend it in the fall to ensure the public registry includes info about how projects will contribute to clean growth and to meeting Canada's climate objectives.

Elbows Up For Climate Elected local leaders from across Canada are uniting to say Elbows Up for Climate. This is the moment to protect our country from the dual threats of tariffs and climate change.

It's like the Leap Manifesto 2025, from 170 municipal leaders representing 10 million Canadians!

We need powerlines, not pipelines.

Big bold projects using Canadian resources to "create hundreds of thousands of good local jobs in cities, rural, and Indigenous communities."

The life and death of the Canadian small town Neoliberal capitalism isn't compatible with small and rural communities. At some point, we either face that fact or we simply let them all die.

The climate-crusading lawyer who sued Switzerland over global warming β€” and won Cordelia BΓ€hr is part of Nature’s 10, a list of people who shaped science in 2024.

I love that the lawyer who connected climate attribution to health risk science is one of @natureportfolio.bsky.social’s 10 people who shaped science in 2024.

She led the lawsuit against the Swiss govt for violating the rights of older women by failing to take steps to prevent climate change.

Where Do Emissions Come From? 4 Charts Explain Greenhouse Gas Emissions by Sector Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are rapidly warming the planet. But where do they come from? WRI experts explain which sectors emit the most GHGs.

While most discussions of which sectors contribute to #climatechange and #GHGEmissions focus on end-users, this @worldresources.bsky.social series of graphs shows that 75.7% of global emissions are from fossil fuels & less than 1/4 from other sources. #SueBigOil www.wri.org/insights/4-c...

This Indigenous attorney is fighting for climate justice in the world's highest court Growing up on Guam, Julian Aguon saw the law used against Indigenous peoples. Now he's fighting back.

β€œThe right to self-determination is a cornerstone of the international legal order,” Aguon told the 15 judges on the ICJ. β€œYet climate change, and the conduct responsible for it, has already infringed the right to self-determination for the many peoples of Melanesia.”

How many people know that the potholes that litter our streets are worse due to extreme heat and precipitation? What about the costs of replanting dying urban trees due to drought? Installing new water treatment due to algal blooms or misting stations for heat waves? The list goes on.

Indeed a tragic example, but the reality is that particular storms or weather events are the tip of the iceberg in terms of municipal costs. This story raises questions about rebuilding stormwater infrastructure to address increased precipitation, but that's hardly mentioned.
