I have never watched much anime (Ghost in the Shell, Ergo Proxy, Pluto), but I saw clips of Serial Experiments Lain and decided to give it a try.

It is amazingly good. Full of silences and very prescient, it's an amazing series. I highly, highly recommend it.

More shows should be this moody.

People expect that Canadian government to somehow negotiate with Trump. Well, conservatives expect it. We all see the tempestuous, free-floating torrent of bullshit that the man produces and we're somehow supposed to come to an accord with him? We're supposed to trust him?

If every game is viewed through a literal-minded, shallow lens, then only games that meet that standard will be produced. But gaming can be far, far more. If you play more than AAA schlock, then you will have encountered incredible narratives. If you don't, then you won't.

Media illiteracy, especially when it comes to gaming, is really grating. We are going to forever cripple the ambitions of deliberately provocative games unless we support audacious developers. There is no reason that gaming has to be viewed as an infantile medium.

I bought the game, even though it's not really my type of thing. 99.999% of the games I play are indie titles and I like challenging narratives and experiments with form. This necessarily means games that aren't for the literal-minded.

Gaming is only inherently juvenile for juvenile people.

Again, I bought my copy through itch and it was about $7 Canadian. I suspect that the dev is selling it at a significant discount, because I previously bought their Mediterranea Inferno and that visual novel cost me around $20.

Regardless, it's worth it just to support ambitious game development.

I really want to support ambitious developers, so I picked it up from itch.io. If you want games to be recognized as an artform, then you have to permit challenging and ambitious titles that aren't to be taken literally. A major developer will never release a narratively audacious title. Never.

Sometimes it's worth buying something out of pure obstinacy. Valve and Epic are the biggest storefronts on the market. If they're going to be thoughtless censors, then I'll support experimental and ambitious developers who get banned JUST BECAUSE I CAN.

I just discovered that I already have a Santa Ragione title: Mediterranea Inferno, which I bought a few months ago. Maybe I'll play a double-header of both titles.

If you think that games can be an art form, then it's worth paying nominal amounts to support indie developers. I buy a lot of games on itch.io, often just because I support the ambition.

I had not heard of the game developer Santa Ragione, but the controversy around their game Horses compelled me to buy a copy. I enjoy games with strong narratives and I do enjoy audacious and compelling creations. I'm not sure if I will get around to playing it, but I support the intention.

I'm going to buy it on GoG because I want to support thematically ambitious games. I might never play it, but it's definitely worth supporting.

Whorl is an incredibly moving book. Just devastating. But you had to have appreciated so much proceeding material in order for it to hit.

But it is worth it. Wolfe was a far better writer than Tolkien or Frank Herbert and deserves far more acclaim.

We are never getting another Gene Wolfe.
