Sometimes when I have three copies I suddenly have one: Instead of having my main drive fail, I had the backup fail, then the secondary right after. Turned out to be a bad port killing drives.
So I took the bus to the city next day and bought two new mech drives (and never used that port again).

Yeah, I don't care about noise on the PWM, just the final smoothed voltage for the rails.

I built a little pi low pass thing, taking the uH value from a calculator... but actually just got spikes from the inductor. Then I plugged in random inductors to no visible improvement. Ayaya...

..as for how a train could prefer smoothed PWM, I don't know, but maybe the small residual spikes makes the motor start better, though I can't say I noticed this happening with my driver circuit. Too much residual PWM results in audible artifacts too, so I'd rather smooth it.

The trains just have a DC motor that runs in reverse when the rails flip.

I smooth most of the PWM using a 1000uF atm. The trains can not run on pure PWM and will just shriek horribly.

PWM was just my first thought--I have not tried any other techniques yet.

No, it can be regulated DC, but I must do it via the MCU.

The controller got with the set uses a LM317T variable regulator to output smooth DC, with a mechanical potentiometer on the adjust pin.

But other controllers supposedly do use PWM. I've heard people say that some trains "prefer" PWM...

The ATmega328P pin 10 uses Timer 1 so I changed the TCCR1B reg prescaler bits to up the PWM from 490Hz to 3.9Khz (says multimeter) to get a smoother current. The BD140 should handle that switching speed, but I don't know how it affects output performance or whether I saturated it correctly...

Stocked:

IRF520N

TIP3055 beefyboy

Trains operate at 0-12V (4-6V typical) and seemingly draw no more than 150mA.

Alright electronics people, I've got three questions:
> Can 9V PWM ripple at 3.9KHz be fully smoothed?
> My smoothed out V from BD140 varies greatly by load, which is bad because train models vary. Substitute? Mosfet?
> The BD140 seems to whine when it's struggling to start trains. BJTs can whine?

I also very much enjoy Dictionary on MacOS, but I doubt many use it. The thesaurus is great. Haven't found anything else like it. Tried Artha on Linux but it's no good when writing as the suggestions aren't very thorough or evocative. Dictionary always gives a ton of suggestions.

Doesn't desktop motherboards have like 3-4 SATA slots, or is that no more? Built my desktops a decade ago. M.2 was in its infancy then. ... ... Huuuh, just looked at some new mobo designs and some have M.2 only. First they got rid of the floppy connector, now this? *waves cane in small circles*

I'm booting from an external USB3 SATA SSD on a desktop computer and it's good enough, but unfortunately it seems like there's some frequency interference with wifi and USB3 so I had to get a shielded cable.

Would kind of suck to have a disk dangling off a laptop, but otherwise SATA is fine?

I got a cheapo laptop which unfortunately had W11 on its soldered on flash drive. But it did had a blank NVME slot so I got an extra drive and installed on that. No partition worries.
It's possible to dualboot either via the grub thing or just switching boot order if no grub, afaik.

I'll... make you.. an offer...
€ 1. 07 -- or I'm walking away! You think you're the only guy selling transistors on ebay, huh!? I'm walking--this is me walking! Big steps. About to turn a corner now.

Finder on MacOS always worked the best for me. Linux gets second place for the very fast "locate partial-filename" in console, though the results can be a bit cluttered. I think it works without the OS having to constantly index stuff (which is needed for the more complex search functions).

No, but I suppose I could... though snow has come now. I took out some snails and larger stuff because I didn't want it to become corpse-town.

Context: Didn't like constantly running the train (N-Gauge) in a loop and thought it would be more relaxing if it paused at the end points, then went back to business when it felt like it (e.g. rnd(400)+20 secs). This thing will sense the train's position and modulate the rail power and also flip it

Got KiCAD running on Mint no probs (didn't use the flatpak). Started fooling around. Breadboarded some of it (without the MCU) and it seems to work with my DF200 diesel, though I'm unclear about some of the safety of the design still. Was surprised my wacky LDR thing was actually somewhat reliable.

I'm good at not watering houseplants and killing them, but this enclosed ecosystem seems to be doing fine. The moss is reaching for the light. Might need to open the jar and trim stuff eventually. The wood appears to be decomposing.

Made a lid-sealed terrarium diorama back in early October. The helpful bugs I put in all died. But now springtails appeared. Plants appear to be thriving. Sadly the jar was a little low for this kind of growth.

Battery power would be the biggest issue since the motors would need quite a bit of juice. Probably can't make it a c90 if a battery stick of some sort is to fit inside. With a c90, you only have the corners. The bulge at the bottom does have some space though.

It could be possible to make a cassette player that fits inside of the tape itself (i.e. a self playing tape), though the R/W head would end up on the other side of the tape. It wouldn't be compatible with a regular player, but might make an interesting novelty item. Motors would go in the holes.

Male MC wakes up. Ah, that's a maid in trouble. I rescued her. She's actually quite cute... clearly a love interest? Ok, now it's 1200 chapters of cultivation and verbal sparring with frustrating antagonists. What maid? Was there a maid? No, this chapter has the big breasted auction house owner.

That- that THING insulted you, Lord Dark CEO!

I don't know what it was about rude ordinary girl MC that made me throw a fat wad of cash in her face after just having met her randomly. Was it because she's very special? As a 10000 year old dragon with old wounds I've never cared about women before!

While waiting for my package I started looking for a space to see if I could fit a model railway anywhere. Technically I could fit it on my office desk. It's all about choosing the right curve radii. I would need to build a platform up for terrain and lake/mining pit. Stole stencil from product img
