In celebration of Gen Con's event list going live (I know it was yesterday, I was busy running a 6+ hour game, leave me be), here's some pictures of last year's Gen Con.

I went to my local Best Buy the other day for the first time in a while. They apparently changed the layout a couple of years ago.

Mechanic:

Game structures outside dice point to "do ridiculous shit, hard".

GM calls for dice rolls when characters act like lunatics.

Dice results are the GM's catastrophe budget, spent on terrible problems, including "you fail".

Bad stats, bad idea = d20.
Good stats, good plan = d4.

I'd argue that time is already here. Air Canada is flying 70% less flights to the States, going into the busy tourism season. The time between Memorial Day and Labour Day is the make-or-break for airlines. What little remains isn't enough to keep jetfuel in the plane. It's going to be bad. Real bad.

I'm going to be reading the last Discworld book for the first time. I've read the others dozens of times, but not that one.

I got my hands on some old *Dragon* magazines (circa 2004) and every page is like getting mugged by nostalgia.

Which is weird, because I didn't have money for magazines in 2004, but nostalgic all the same.
