BREAKING: Scientists are staging a “science fair” in the lobby of a Congressional building to tell elected officials about the critical knowledge the US will lose because their research grants have been canceled.

All of this boils down to resentment of experts being given authority.

It is extremely sad that so many people would rather die or risk their loved ones dying than admit 'common sense' just doesn't come with enough info.

NYT's credibility is deservedly waning, but it's still considered 'the' newspaper of this country.

Rather than demanding people give up a resource, it will probably be far more successful to suggest a replacement. Is there a credible major newspaper that hasn't been bought by an oligarch?

When you say you wouldn't help you also at minimum imply *why* you wouldn't help.

And that comes down to what you think is more important - ie, prioritizing values.

I regret to inform you that you are probably the only one here who is completely oblivious that when comparing 'wrongs', like in this convo, it comes down to weighing which values prevail.

No one finds the purely 'legalist' stance you are taking novel, clever or practical.

It is *easy* to enforce more heavily on the less wealthy and you seem fine with that

Grocery workers don't have to take on the risk of 'a slow night' or a spate of stingy customers.

But really - the tips carve-out is probably because the wealthy are about to abuse the fuck out of it somehow.

Everyone should pay their taxes, but when the rich rig our entire system to get out of it, then the focus should be on them. It is morally bankrupt to focus on people who use the extra money for basic needs instead of yachts or more investment options.

Eat them before they eat us.

Because this bill is basically the wealthy taking another giant bite out of all of us.

Why should any of us give a shit if someone making under $60k pays all of their taxes?

The wealthy support entire industries and lobbies to avoid paying their taxes. And we lose a lot more government revenue from that than taxes on tips.

If the rich don't have to play by the rules, no one should.

2) Your criticism has no realistic target. No one thinks Warren *only* cares about eggs. There is no action that fixes *everything*.

It will be both.

This won't kill these efforts everywhere, but US researchers and most importantly agencies will only find out results through publications - ie, 1-2 yrs later.

There is no moral hazard with discrimination based on vaccine status.

It is not anyone's race. The best you can do is say it's an ideology.

But we also don't let people who have an ideology of stabbing strangers in public express that freely.

If you criticize the left, you get a productive response.

If you criticize the right, you likely get your life threatened and 0 reflection.

OF COURSE people prefer to pretend they can fix things using the tool that responds.

This is also the dynamic underlying most victim blaming.
