In my experience, nonprofit workforce issues are structural. A lack of flexible, unrestricted core funding prevents organizations from increasing salaries to market standards, or even just indexing to inflation. Larger system failures (the inability to help) result in burnout and compassion fatigue.

Changemaker Wellbeing Index 2025
A collaboration between Future of Good & Environics Research, the Wellbeing Index is the first-of-its-kind report uncovering the realities of nonprofit work through data and lived experience.
There is lots of important Canadian research emerging about #nonprofitworkforce issues. One example is the Changemaker Wellbeing Index recently launched by @futureofgood.bsky.social: wellbeingindex.ca. 70% of participating employees reported feeling burnt out/exhausted at least occasionally.
