On this day in 1962 (February 2nd), The Beatles performed their first professionally organised gig outside of Liverpool at Manchester’s Oasis Club.

They opened with “The Hippy Hippy Shake”, and went on to perform a set list that included songs such as “Sweet Little Sixteen” and “Like Dreamers Do”.

I'm on the lookout for a copy of the SOUTH BANK SHOW dated 6th May 1984 (s7e17) about ED MCBAIN.

I've not been able to find it anywhere - the archive at Leeds Uni has a non-digitised film copy, so that doesn't help. There's a 3 min clip on Youtube that the director shared.

Any help appreciated!

Yes, introduced to a wide audience in the Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night in 1964 - I was being a bit silly.

I second the recommendation for that book . It’s absolutely fascinating - not just the stories but how it captures the change of the band from hometown heroes to national superstars about to burst onto the world stage!

Very few of us are ‘fully formed’, if we ever are, by the age of 40. I know I wasn’t! Probably still not.

A few years ago an old family friend, sadly no longer with us, sent me this photo. He's on the very right, talking with Mr Lennon at 1 Div HQ & Signal Regiment in Verden-Aller, North Rhein, Westphalia.

He described it as "One of the most memorable occasions in my life."
