Indeed. The murder is almost a backstory. How it is perceived and written about through the centuries is quite revealing about society's perceptions of love, fidelity and morals of each generation.

I must admit I was unaware of the events on 7th April 1779 when James Hackman shot Martha Ray. A quite sensational murder that gripped society at the time and has continued to fascinate people through the centuries. This book recalls the event and focuses on that fascination.

Yes, so many history changing events starting in the same year: divorce laws, medical regulation, Darwin finalising The Origin of Species and the agreement to control the sewage of London. It also reveals the embarrassing behaviour of the elite 😂

Great bit of news yesterday when the Planning Inspectorate kicked-out the council's plans to build 125 houses on greenbelt land at the bottom of my garden, as well as rejecting plans for about another 50 in the village.

I suppose he has to say positive things, but they were dreadful in the first half and not much better in the second

I'll take that for a season opener. Well done #scfc 👏👏
