I fully believe that news outlets need paywalls to survive right now, but I also think that they should be used more strategically. Why are you cutting off breaking news to the general public as if that should only be available to people with money??

All your editor is doing is looking out for you! Being an editor is a thankless job though because writers can be so precious (it's me, I'm writer). Some of the worst professional interactions I've ever had have been with writers I'm editing who can't deal with that.

As someone who thinks my skills lend themselves toward me being a critic (and not particularly a news person or any other kind of writer we sometimes put under the banner of "games journalist") and an editor, I definitely lament how hard it is for people to specialize in what they're good at today.
