June 30, 2025: Judge Worrell voids Charlottesvilleβs zoning code after cityβs attorneys failed to file a required document in time
The city is evaluating next steps but can no longer use the new rules
charlottesville spent most of a decade revising its zoning code. it held endless community meetings and gave opponents ample opportunity to make their case. they lost. but a handful of rich homeowners sued and have gotten the new code overturned on a technicality.

seen some people complaining that this is a political stunt and lemme say if this was the kind of political stunt more politicians were doing on a regular basis we wouldn't be where we are today

I know there are Israelis who are against the genocide, we all know that so it's not worth 'well actually'ing about it unless they overthrow their government. Palestinians are reaping what they sow?? what??

sorry, but if you look at surveys of Israelis huge proportions support continuing and even expanding the war. policing language about them is a complete waste of time. about as helpful as yelling 'not all Germans' in the 30s

sprawl is an unmitigated environmental, social, and economic disaster
it is no longer affordable (especially when you add in transportation and time)
sprawl is driving climate change. literally.
and it is a ponzi scheme - unable to fund maintenance and replacement costs

If Hamas had killed 7 Israelis inside of Israel this week, it would be one of the biggest stories in the world, & all over the US media.
But Israel killed 7 HUNDRED Palestinians this week, including almost 200 children, & yet there's little outrage from our politicians or media.

After 10 years of Labour membership, I finally cancelled a month ago and this week attended my first local @greenparty.org.uk meeting. I met good people fighting for the things that matter most.
Nearly half of those at the meeting were new members. Labour are losing support rapidly

this is unironically true. we have a few guys in the UK now making accessible, fun left-wing content with unapologetically masculine energy and they're hugely popular (they're not at all stupid but ygm). young men are so image-oriented and desperately need to feel represented

we just need stupider leftists. I'm dead serious. charismatic guys with the stamina to record 100 instagram reels a week in the front seat of their car saying stuff like "trump made summers too hot" and "the fries at wendy's taste better ever since they went woke"

As expected, public approval of congestion pricing in New York is following the same trajectory it followed in London, Stockholm and everywhere else it was tried. One would hope we could learn a lesson from such things!

1. What explains the paralysis that seems to have overcome us, as we watch the most powerful nation of Earth spiralling towards fascist dictatorship? Well, a large part of it, I feel, is the surreal, astonishing uselessness of the Democratic Party. π§΅

they'll always collapse because it's always the same set of horrible blokes. Reform are ex-UKIP who are ex-BNP who are ex-National Front. not that we shouldn't take them seriously and organise to oppose, but they'll do a lot of that work themselves before the next election just by existing in public

A tweet by Jason, longwall26, responding to a report that one in twelve men say they could win a point in a game of tennis against 23 time grand slam winner Serena Williams:
Confident in my ability to properly tennis I take the court. I smile at my opponent. Serena does not return the gesture. She'd be prettier if she did I think. She serves. The ball passes cleanly through my skull killing me instantly.
Any excuse to share this, one of the greatest things ever put on the internet:
