A fan has made small #StarTrek tricorders with working LED lighting

This is the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, imaged on 21 July by the Hubble Space Telescope.

It continues to blow my mind that this comet is from a different planetary system, and is likely more than seven billion years old.

You heard it here first!

We already showed last December that this nebula was in the Milky Way, not in Andromeda. Here is the paper:

With the @gtctelescope.bsky.social we measured the speed of the nebula, and found that it was much too slow to be related to Andromeda

The Andromeda Galaxy is shown just right of center, while some unusual blue arcs appear to its left. Please see the explanation for more detailed information.

Uma coisa que me chateia bastante no discurso pró ciência de base é que ele vem sempre com um fundo utilitarista. "Se não fosse o estudo da física quântica não teríamos GPS hoje" ou qualquer coisa assim. Falta um pouco de discurso romântico de "caralho não é legal SABER DAS COISAS?"
