The White House press corps, once a revered group with integrity and a well-earned reputation for asking tough but fair questions, are no better than the spokespersons they cover. But hey, they get to keep their jobs and maybe even an exclusive once in a while. No guts, no conscience. Just sad.

Yep, LD was great in its day. A lifeline for those of us who needed info asap and didn't have an academic address. On occasion, a colleague who came from academia and still had library access would get papers for me but the school caught on and canceled her acct. Hope it still exists in some form.

Great idea if/when you're close to a med library. In my last position in a small biotech firm, we were 2 hours away from the closest one but had an account with them where they'd fax (showing my age) then email requested papers for a small fee (service called "Loansome Doc" that I used regularly).

Same. Absolutely vital to researchers like me working in small companies without direct access to dozens of relevant journals. At least Google Scholar still works ... for now.

Gotta believe there's a lot of coaching and training/practice at diversion and pivoting going on. You're right, many of them are really good at deflection and countering, even if their answers are weak. They know the media won't push them harder at the risk of losing access.

We used to travel to Asheville, NC for overnight stays often. Returning to our hotel one time, stopped at bar for nightcap. Wife noticed 2 elderly gents chatting and swears to me one is Leonard. Smiled at us when leaving. Asked 2nd gent if it was LC ... sure enough! Miss that guy. One of a kind.

Plus, I just really hate that he carries the same name as our 35th President. He and RFK Jr. have sullied the Kennedy name and it's getting worse every day.

Considering his wealth, seems like he could have owned all of those transport companies and hired private pilots to control any records or logs, but you would know better if that's a probability.

Well said. Nearly 50 years later, I still remember surviving the struggles and challenges a lot more clearly than celebrating the successes. That experience, however painful at the time, was priceless to me in retrospect.

3 songs on the album were recorded at our small college gym during my junior year. Really good sound quality considering the venue. Concert cost a whole $2 for us students.

We were very fortunate to visit once on an "alumni day" and got to meet and speak with former inmates (bank robbers!) and folks our age who grew up on the island while their parents worked there.
