Battsetseg meets Stubb.
Diplomacy is "diplomacy" but personally not a big fan of the Finnish President, who as a Dean of EUI in Bologna, used to parrot racist/eurasianist tropes about the apparent selectively negative impact of the Mongol empire on Russia (gist: blame Mongols for Russian crimes).
Former President of Mongolia Elbegdorj Tsakhia, who is a fellow at the Hoover Institution now, gave a commencement speech this year at Hertie School.
Was rather surprised by the choice but the speech itself speaks about the re-invention of his public role.

Finland is hosting Helsinki+50 Conference to mark the founding of the OSCE.
Interesting and laudable that Mongolia's Foreign Minister Battsetseg is taking part in the panel.
Though I must admit the choice of the specific panel with a focus on Europe is a little tangential.

I had Mongolian classes with her and discovered her talent there ! Go check her amazing music ! 👏👏👏👏👏

Treating myself at the end of a productive week with Airag from Yesunzuil - the birthplace of 1st Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutughtu Zanabazar.
These days Mongolia is celebrating his 390th anniversary with a Danshig Naadam in his honor, with events in Yesunzuil & Arvaikheer of the Uvurkhangai province.
The fastest growing Mongol diaspora community is in Australia, largely a result of last 5-6 years.
This year the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) held its 1st Naadam festival. Hope it will become a magnet for other Mongols e.g. from Russia & China like elsewhere.

Interesting plot twist in 2024 South Korean martial law crisis.
S.Korean intel officers were arrested in Mongolia last November, while on a mission to either provoke N.Korean side or open a line of communication that 'd serve as a justification for martial law.

Yesterday the imperial couple visited Takhi preservation reserve at the Khustai mountain and flew off to the land of the Rising Sun this morning.
Hope we can bear fruits of this visit for generations to come.
This was the Queen of Bhutan last year after Naadam in the Mongolian Gobi desert.
This year Masako is really enjoying herself, with more lacks protocol and fun activities.
Mongolia as a travel destination can be a truly soul-healing destination.
It is customary for foreign dignitaries to see the Soyolon (5 yo horse) race coz they are deemed fastest.
Japanese royals weren't exception & seeing the emotional Naruhito & Masako I can't help but think that this is how symbiotic soft-power can be exercised. Lovely.

Marco Rubio sent a traditional Naadam greetings to Mongolia, but the LA Mongolian community canceled this year's Naadam citing the policies of this administration.
Good for an administration that likes to shoot itself in the foot.

Judging by the trajectory, she did quite well, as I can attest it requires quite a technique and strength to shoot it the right way.

The emperor visited the Gandantegchinlen monastery.
Very much expected but still nice and important gesture for the both peace loving countries.

A great quote showing how the Mongol royalty moved in great cities. It was also not the movement of mobile herders or "nomads" - it was thousands of animals and people (certainly was terrible for the environment).
See Chris Atwood's "Imperial Itinerance" article for more info.
