Glad to see this essay on Foreign Policy. The racist discrimination & disproportionate mobilization of Russia's minorities hasn't stopped.
We can discuss the "degree" of this essay's arguments, but the fundamentals remain true - Empires will collapse.

Really enjoyed the Manchu crash course by @iskandarding.bsky.social
Mongolia has quite a few Manchu experts, one of whom - Oyunjargal Ochir in her interview to Mongolian National Broadcaster would say "Manchu is the easiest foreign language to learn for Mongols".

Take time to read Soyonbo Borjigin's personal essay on his career as a journalist in Inner Mongolia.
Reads like a Murakami novel. Intimate and fluent in detailing the cultural, the political and everything else in the liminal.

A way to win the tournament by beating a reigning Yokozuna - Hoshoryu Byambasuren twice!
As we say in Mongolian wrestling - Bokh: "You become Avarga (champ) by beating an Avarga"!

Physical Asia is a rare show allowing us - Asians, to see each other thru non-eurocentric gaze & it seems everyone is enjoying it.
So fun to observe the different approaches to teamwork & national traits coming thru.

Lovely NHK documentary of rural Mongolian boys practicing Sumo alongside Mongol Bokh, chasing their dream to become professional rikishi one day following the footsteps of so many Mongolian Yokozunas.

Lots of truth in Elbegdorj's latest op-ed:
"These giants (Russia & China) scrutinize every choice we make. Still, Mongolians have preserved self-rule. It comes at a price, but it proves that freedom is not a Western luxury but a universal calling."

Mongolian Association for Manchu Studies is co-organizing a Manchu studies International conference w/ Eotvos Lorand University.
Dunno if I mentioned it here, but National Library of Mongolia has a treasure trove of Manchu-language documents, w/out which "Manchu studies" is rather incomplete IMO 🤔
‘Across the region, similar scenes were unfolding. In city after city, the words for “Mongolian”, “Manchu”, “Hui”, “Korean” and “Nationality” were being replaced by numbers.’

Really, really, really enjoyed it. :))) Good job giving credits to your Mongolian interlocutors, colleagues and friends. Had a good laugh when "reading the landscape like a music sheet" joke dropped. 😊

Apart from Dalai Lama, many Mongol diaspora organizations have been issuing statements of support for Sanae Takaichi, including the Ulaanbaatar based World Mongol Congress, headed by former President of Mongolia - Elbegdorj Tsakhiagiin, as well as the Southern Mongolian People's Party.

I am sure I agree. Ishin "replaced" #Komeito precisely coz it is more accommodating for a hawk like #Takaichi to become PM. IMO LDP's core will further embrace Inner Mongolians, Uighurs & Tibetans etc.
Happy to hear other opinions.
As a Mongolian I am pleased with Sanae Takaichi's election as Japan's PM.
A decade ago, someone with such a voice on China's #humanrights record would have been 'too extreme" for PM.
Today I was also told by a Nordic Japan expert that she "would have to tone down her hawkishness to govern" ...
