this is why I think the opposition will stagnate. As horrific as this administration's actions are to some, they are appealing to others, and the folks in the middle seem not to care very strongly, for whatever reason--as you say, we are not mind readers. I wonder what their "red lines" are?

There is also a lot of time between now and 2028. The MAGA movement has already done most of its policy damage and will have 2 years for people to become accustomed to it. That's a long time for a successor to emerge, and a long time for opposition to stay engaged. To my earlier point...

These are good points, but I think some people's positions are vulnerable to influence. We saw this with the late surge of Hispanic male support for Trump in 2024, and Biden's "October Surprise" gaffe about Trump supporters being "garbage" (evidence that saying the wrong thing can tank a campaign).

I'll rephrase: You responded by telling me I'm wrong about the US being too bigoted and misogynistic to elect a woman of color. So please elaborate on why you think that is not the case. Why is it unserious to ask why people care so little? Also, no need for hostility. I'm not your enemy.

Canada, China and other nations are doing the right thing by attempting to disentangle their economies from the US economy. We needed a punch in the face and the imminent decline in quality of life is it.

In Ohio, the GOP-controlled state government has limited ballot drop boxes to one per county, which is reasonable for low-population (red) counties, but is absurd for counties like Cuyahoga where 1.2M people live. They introduced legislation in April of this year to eliminate them altogether.

We are in a place now where the federal government is attempting to normalize racial profiling and suspension of civil liberties. Some people are resisting this, but most are silent--so you tell me, what is in their minds?

There's no amount of qualification, charisma, intelligence or demographic appeal that can overcome the amount of bigotry and misogyny in the US today. That's reality. Solve those problems first, and then we'll be ready for a president like her.

Also, if your state government is GOP-controlled, expect late changes to absentee voting rules and challenges to "improper" ballots after the fact. Voting by mail has long been a target for the GOP.

A word of caution: Mail service has slowed considerably in my area over the past few years (in northeast Ohio...YMMV). I regularly receive mail postmarked 3-4 weeks ago. If absentee voting, the better option may be to drop off your ballot at your local board of elections.

Replacing human laborers with robots is progress. The problem is, Amazon isn't making up for the loss of consumer activity, loss of tax revenue, and shrinking of the health insurance pool that will happen with the loss of these jobs. Legislators need to act.
