The fun bit about learning a new language is Thomas and me walking around the house shouting "fine, what's your name?" at one another ๐Ÿ˜† #welsh

I loved this so made a website to use some of them for AAC: kbarrett.github.io/ics-aac/ (It's basic by design and also because I hate CSS ๐Ÿ™ƒ)

*Slightly* lower stakes, but I'm a big fan of when board game instructions say e.g. "he/she must perform forfeit", I guess that doesn't apply to me ๐Ÿ˜›

During the last cold snap, I panic-bought a woollen blanket (ยฃ25). This time I've bought an IR heater (ยฃ250). Hopefully it'll warm up before I put ยฃ2500-worth of attic insulation on a credit card! ๐Ÿฅถ

Moving to a new town was scary and it can be lonely at times, but I spent the afternoon making zines and then the evening at a heart-warming gathering with an incredibly-welcoming group of queers, so happy solstice everyone โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒ™

I assume you've already seen Bros - me and T watched it for the first time recently and it's much queerer than I expected!

My argument against it is that if drivers get used to looking out for hi-viz they might miss cyclists not wearing it. By the same logic, I don't think cars should be allowed to use headlights in built-up areas because not everyone else they might encounter will have lights (e.g. pedestrians).

Parking on the road - particularly partially blocking the pavement - should not be allowed. Storing anything else on public property is fly-tipping, why are cars different? And yes, that would mean lots of homes wouldn't have anywhere to store a car, so that's why we'd also improve public transport.

I've got a scrappy first draft of a book about a surrogate (_loosely_ based on my own experience) but I had to put it aside because my health deteriorated too much to be able to work on it. I'd love to get back to it!

This doesn't even work. There's no such thing as sex-specific healthcare - both trans and cis people sometimes have more or less anatomy than they were born with and, if the NHS wants to offer accurate screenings, the presence/absence of various body parts is what health records should be storing!

Who Will Count as Disabled Tomorrow? The dangerous redefinition of welfare disguised as Labour's compassionate reform.

NEW FROM ME -

Britain is abandoning international medical consensus on disability.

Every other developed nation recognizes cumulative impairment as genuine severity.

We're about to become an anomalyโ€”and the logic of 4+ suggests it was deliberate.

In principle, I'm in favour of assisted dying.

But I can't see a way to legalise it that doesn't disproportionately harm disabled people while we live in an ableist, capitalist world.

What's the first appearance of the rhyme about "He died defending his right of way"? There's a little poem that goes something like this: Here lies the body of Thomas Grey, Who died defending his right of way. He was perfectly right as he sped along, But he's just as dead as if he'd

My Dad said the same thing when I was little; I still think of this poem every time someone says "right of way": literature.stackexchange.com/a/24758

(long๐Ÿงต) Watching some gays & lesbians celebrate that heinous UK Court ruling against trans women has me again thinking about how little most gay people know about their own history. No, I'm not rehashing if trans people were at Stonewall (they were). I'm talking about the long arc of what it even...

At least we all now know exactly what a woman is

A woman is someone a 61 year old male billionaire decides is worthy of a 10 minute ride in space as part of a publicity stunt. A very useful metric.

Really recommend reading this on the reality of claiming PIP. Govt cuts will make this (awful, abusive) system much much worse. "Balancing the books" on the backs of sick and disabled people๐Ÿ˜ญ

The downside of orienting my entire TV experience around a #Chromecast is that I have nothing to watch now it's (hopefully temporarily) not working - time to see if the Xbox360 still plays DVDs I guess!

I've discovered reacting to my worry in a sensory way (eg a nice smell, soft fabric, good view etc) helps a lot more than any cognitive redirection.

I've received some raised eyebrows about visiting #Guernsey in January but the views are stunning and the weather is fantastic for walking - the only problem is that almost everywhere is shut for the off-season!
