Check out: New PhenObs paper published in ‘Basic and Applied Ecology’. We used historical data from Vienna and recently collected data from PhenObs to investigate whether phenological changes due to climate change (temporal scale) are also reflected on a spatial scale.

We are happy that we can contribute to this conference in Brazil. Phenological research, like ecological research in general, must indeed be thought of in global terms, in line with the title of the conference: ‘PHENO2025 - Towards a Global Phenology Science’.🌍

We just finished the PhenObs Spring Symposium. In six very different presentations, colleagues from all over Europe talked about how botanical gardens can be used for ecological research🌸🧪🐌.
Conclusion: Botanical gardens are a fascinating research platforms👍.

Should we protect non-native species? A new study says maybe | iDiv What happens when plants thrive outside their native range but struggle in their original habitat? A new study puts numbers to a growing conservation dilemma.

🌿A new study in @newphyt.bsky.social finds that 27% of naturalised plants are threatened in their native range, revealing a conservation dilemma. As species distributions shift, conservation policies may need to evolve. #iDivResearch www.idiv.de/should-we-pr...

Plant communities in the Arctic are changing along with the climate, study finds | CBC News A recent study has found that climate change is altering Arctic plant composition, with some species declining in response to warmer temperatures, while others flourish. Researchers studied over 2,000...

Over forty years, research spanning the Canadian Arctic, Alaska, and Scandinavia has shown significant alterations in Arctic vegetation as a consequence of climate variations. Around 60% of the locations examined in the study have witnessed a shift in plant species composition.

It is time to go "belowground" and starting monitoring of root phenology of herbaceous plant🌻. Thanks to funding by the @idiv-research.bsky.social we could set-up a study site with minirhizotrons at the botanical garden of Jena👍🏼.
