Long-awaited bus plan fails to reveal construction timeline or routes
After about a year of delays, the Tasmanian government has released its strategic business case for the Greater Hobart Rapid Bus Network, but a lot of the detail has not been included.
"No decisions have been made on exact routes or station locations and the start date for construction is also unknown.
It is also unclear how many buses will be needed.....and how many passengers will be able to travel in and out of the city".
The wait continues?

This Is The Real Reason We Can't Have The Cities We Dream Of
A really good piece from #GCN here and especially the discussions at the end and the final point about needing some visions and plans - that really is the thing lacking in the UK.

When the roads lobby start to highlight how many people are killed on local streets with 50km/h limit, you know something is up.
"Vulnerable road users were disproportionately affected, with pedestrian deaths up 13% year-on-year in 2025 and cyclist deaths up 32%".

βYeah but we canβt reduce parking in our development because, you know, Perth people love their carβ
No they donβt. It makes them miserable and they complain always about driving issues - fuel, parking, congestion etc. It makes them rage. It kills or maims people they know.
Itβs a condition.

54-minute commute sparks anger among Applecross residents
βIt took me fifty-four minutes to travel from Hislop Road to Canning Bridge the other day. Fifty-four minutes.β
So, we should build more road capacity and then residents would support intensification and secondly the major issue is the location of a bus stop getting in the way of traffic. Right.

Been reviewing community engagement responses for a plan in a regional city and a lot of them, when prompted about what they like about the area, say things like "less traffic here than Perth".
What they appear to mean is "less traffic here than Perth to get in the way of me driving around".

Australiaβs grid now relies on renewable energy as much as coal. Those who doubted it look foolish
Solar met the majority of electricity demand between 9am and 6pm in the past week as much of the country cranked air conditioners
Embedded nation or city wide systems with long histories can rapidly change for the better when needed or there is a price point differential.
Remember that every time someone rails against a bike lane or a transit project. Change does happen.

Willing Building in Mt Lawley. Residential development with 30 units under construction.
This is the Willing site in East Perth/Mt Lawley. Itβs a 30 unit resi development near completion.
Itβs the only resi development under a crane between East Perth and Bayswater Stations. There are 3 lines that have served those stations since 2024. Stations in Perth suffer from underdevelopment.
