2010-2014: Butler station
2014-2022: Forrestfield-Airport Link
2019-2026: Metronet
Before that, there was the Mandurah line and New MetroRail from 2001 to 2008. With no new stations or extensions on the horizon, it looks like there will be a gap we haven't had in a long time.

The New Midland Station opens tomorrow, and I'm a little sad because it means that for the first time since work on the Butler extension began in 2010, Perth doesn't have any rail extensions or new stations under construction or about to begin construction.

Canning Highwayβs going to be at capacity soon? Sounds like a good reason to built bus lanes or a tram.

It was just announced that the Federal Government is selling off Irwin Barracks! This would make a great transit oriented development. Karrakatta station is right there and underutilised.

This is a massive site by the way. Over half the size of the Subiaco redevelopment area. This site has massive potential.

Which station do you think receive more weekly boardings? Without knowing anything else, a lot of people would guess incorrectly.

It was Murdoch that used to be first. Probably a combination of no university in December and the TCL that have put Cockburn Central in first.

Subiaco station's catchment is only walking distance. As for Fremantle, people would rather catch the bus or drive to the Mandurah line as its much quicker than the slow Fremantle line. The catchment area for Fremantle station is only a small area, even if the station has lots of bus services.

My theory for why Mandurah/Joondalup line stations are so much busiest is that they simply have a much larger catchment area. Stations are spaced further apart and they have better feeder buses. When you are close to the city, like Subiaco, buses tend to run directly to the CBD.

According to the transport minister, these are Perth's busiest train stations outside the CBD. The top 6 (and 8 of the top 10) stations are all on the Mandurah or Yanchep lines. The top 4 are all in freeway medians.

Agreed. Itβs much better than having an ugly barbed wire fence dividing two sides apart.

You can use a u-shaped viaduct structure to reduce noise. Iβm not aware of this being used outside Australia though.

The worst problem from my perspective is that the Midland and Fremantle lines have not yet been merged into one Midmantle line to reflect the reality that they are one line. Ditto for the Mandurah and Yanchep lines.

Submission β Official Map: Transperth Rail Diagram,Β 2026
Submitted by Noah, who says: I would appreciate a review of the updated system map for Transperth. Transit Maps says: This dates from October 2025, when the Armadale line was extended one station to Byford. Again, this is one of those diagrams that gets the job done, but absolutely lacks any finesse and craft. There's a whole litany of problems here β angled labels when there's plenty of room for them to be horizontal, inconsistent corner radii, a river that just ends (where's the West Australian coast?), icons that are visually too similar to each other, etc.
New on the blog! The official diagram of Transperth rail services has a lot of problems, but here's the two big ones:

This table is with a few problems fixed. Sydney now includes Newcastle and Wollongong in its population. Melbourne no longer includes regional train/bus/coach patronage. I know that V/line services part of suburban Melbourne, but I don't know if its possible to separate that from regional V/line.
