Reflections on Plastic, Governance, and the big N - Neoliberalism Driving down the highway for work in the United States is generally boring. Once one leaves the urban centers, traffic flows, lanes disappear, and you traverse flat, yet worn, asphalt. There are…

I just finished a new reflection on plastic pollution and neoliberalism using @ghost.org. Within I describe the problem I've seen, ruminate on what scholarships suggests is the underlying issue, & urge you not to blame yourself. Your thoughts always welcome. #Engage #academicsky

Can you break down the costs further? Or refer me to a reputable source that's already done that? Honestly, this entire system is breaking my brain and I need to learn more. πŸ‘

I was told the cat would be upset at a new sitter while the owners were away. The cat, is in fact, upset at a new sitter. I am reading Sugar by James Walvin to the cat in hopes of building a bond. This is not my research area. Wish me luck.

Open access. In principle I understand. Huge advocate of accessible science for all.Why are the publishing fees unaffordable? Honest question, I don't understand. €2500 to publish an article in a good peer reviewed open access journal, break down that cost for me #edusky #openaccess #academicsky

I like to tell my students about my first undergrad class. Professor walked in, told us to keep quiet and not ask him any questions. He was there to lecture, not help us. That's what the TA was for.

I promise never to act like a dictator, or betray their trust

1) soft AI, try to frame appropriate use cases. 2) a good/bad/ugly case study on AI deployment on the class theme 3) pre course survey - how, why do you use it? I need to learn how they are using it and integrate and respond to their needs.

Babylon 5 (season 1 is hit or miss though) too when you finish. Oldie but lots of themes speaking to today, especially in later seasons.

Might be a good time for a rewatch of Battlestar Galactica, and definitely a good time for a first watch if you haven't. Lots of relevance for thinking through possible next moves.

I have no answers. I won't pretend to offer them. I do, however, implore us all to think differently, bravely, and find new ways to respond before we loose our ability to do even that.

We see now, in academia, healthcare, broadcasting & the arts - neither laws nor redress will help. Institutions will not protect, let alone remedy, the wrongs so many now face. A small victory? It happens because it is allowed to. It is inconsequential to the state. A veneer of hope, only.

Suing, appealing decisions, re-writing grants. None of that will help. There is no precedent to refer to, no norm to fall back on. We are in an early fascist state. Destructive and manic change is the guiding authority. The rules are unfamiliar , ever changing, and stacked against us.

I am a new scholar, and the weight of my voice does not carry as far as some. I have read many conversations and posts through #academicsky. I've spoken daily with colleagues on #fascism and #democracy. I feel, now, compelled to write in the hope we can shift our thinking on the challenges today.

Lately, I've been writing and reading more. My current environment has fostered a level of clarity not felt in ages. Academic work & the children's novel for my son. Maybe it's the canals, the espresso, and the absence of negativity. I suspect it's all three. #WritingLife #CreativeProcess

There’s renewable energy ads and there’s mother**cking wind farm ads. This, blissfully, is the latter.

I always struggle to discuss how many interviews/documents I'll analyze to reach saturation in a qualitative project. What's the n? Why? Does it matter? Larger questions about that aside, Does anyone have any advice for writing to this in a methods section? #academicsky #research #writing

I would buy your coffee table catalog in a heart beat.

We have similar revision (survival?) strategies. I find I can never submit a revision without a pinch of self deprecating humor. It's all I know and I'm too tired to try something new.

If I recall, a similar tactic was used to capture data, cherry pick it, and use it to sully climate research.

Another forest fire broke out in the Olympic National Forest. South of the Hamma Hamma River, it's reported that the smoke is visible from NF25 (it leads to the popular Lena Lake trailhead). I hope this one quickly put out. πŸ™
