Might be a good time for a rewatch of Battlestar Galactica, and definitely a good time for a first watch if you haven't. Lots of relevance for thinking through possible next moves.

I have no answers. I won't pretend to offer them. I do, however, implore us all to think differently, bravely, and find new ways to respond before we loose our ability to do even that.

We see now, in academia, healthcare, broadcasting & the arts - neither laws nor redress will help. Institutions will not protect, let alone remedy, the wrongs so many now face. A small victory? It happens because it is allowed to. It is inconsequential to the state. A veneer of hope, only.

Suing, appealing decisions, re-writing grants. None of that will help. There is no precedent to refer to, no norm to fall back on. We are in an early fascist state. Destructive and manic change is the guiding authority. The rules are unfamiliar , ever changing, and stacked against us.

I am a new scholar, and the weight of my voice does not carry as far as some. I have read many conversations and posts through #academicsky. I've spoken daily with colleagues on #fascism and #democracy. I feel, now, compelled to write in the hope we can shift our thinking on the challenges today.

Lately, I've been writing and reading more. My current environment has fostered a level of clarity not felt in ages. Academic work & the children's novel for my son. Maybe it's the canals, the espresso, and the absence of negativity. I suspect it's all three. #WritingLife #CreativeProcess
