There's a film in the BBC archive about Welsh witchcraft (folk magic for stupid working people) and the more New Age (Middle class, classically based) that I am going to write a whole book about.

There was no malice intended. But it's been living in my head rent free. How quickly anything wholly Welsh is dismissed as "twee", infantalising an oral tradition seems to be a hangover from earlier times. The Wrlsh dirty, ignorant and uneducated. And it needs to stop.

We went to a lecture about Welsh folklore and place. At the Q&A, lady suggests "telling your spooky stories in a castle by candlelight. It would be spooky". She was English. Over 1000 years of folk culture boiled down to something whimsical and twee. 1/2

Not just a phase.
