Using historical controls to evaluate resistance training-induced strength adaptations: Does history repeat itself? To determine whether a historical control group could appropriately quantify resistance training-induced changes in one-repetition maximum (1RM) strength and the magnitude of variability in trainin...

Recent paper from #OleMissMuscle where we evaluate whether a historical control group can substitute for a time-matched, non-exercise control in assessing resistance training-induced changes in 1RM strength and response variability.

We just wrapped up a replicate crossover trial using two independent samples and ran the random effects meta within each group. I was wondering if there was a method of comparing the tau statistics.

Dr. Senn, I hope all is well. Quick question, if you don’t mind me asking… do you know of any methods to compare tau statistics from random effects meta-analysis on replicate crossover trial data?

Essentially, I’m trying to calculate a 90% CI for an SDir.

The SDir is negative, so I flipped the control and exercise group’s values to make it positive. I’m not having trouble calculating a lower bound for the CI.

For some reason, it doesn’t allow me to DM.

@jamessteeleii.bsky.social Dr. Steele, do you mind if I ask you a quick question about calculating 90% CI from an SDir?

Dr. Atkinson, I really enjoyed the paper… well written and strong design!

I am curious to hear your thoughts as to whether a Bland-Altman plot between the 1st and 2nd response replicates (to assess the agreement of the replicated placebo-adjusted supplementation effect) may be of any value here?
