Librarians Struggle With Mental Health After Traumatic Events at Work As libraries become public stages for social problems — homelessness, drug use, mental health — the people who work there are burning out.

i work at a public library. recently, we've had
-bomb threat
-sniper threat
-fascists protesting outside
-closure related to violence in the library
-staff & patrons being threatened by other patrons

oh, we haven't had a raise in 2.5 years

It's not our fault we didn't have good modeling or support when it came to emotional regulation growing up; there's no shame in learning emotional regulation as an adult; & there's no shame in not being awesome or consistent at something we're just leaning.

Grace over guilt.

Maybe we're not so much "afraid" of that boss or landlord or other authority figure; maybe they're evoking emotional flashbacks associated w/ authority figures from our past-- to whom our nervous system only knows how to relate from a position of legit vulnerability.
