To paraphrase Henri Cartier Bresson, if your pictures aren't good, you're not close enough. Use a lens with a wide field of view, 23-35 full frame equivalent and learn to shoot from the hip. Use a small camera, GRIII, X100 or even a small point and shoot. Don't be afraid to crop in post.
