Yeah 100 AIC for a single cov is a lot. My guess is that something is going wrong but im out of easy guesses. I’m happy to take a look if you want to send a reproducible example. It’s hard to say what is happening from here.

Hmm… a 23 level factor can be a lot but a single cov model sounds reasonable. Is that param extremely important? Are you seeing really high SEs elsewhere that indicate poor convergence?

Gotcha. NAs in the betas or the SEs is suggesting that your model can’t estimate those params. I would check for multicollinearity and probably simplify your model. How many total covs are we talking here? You might just be overparameterized.

I’ve run those plenty but not in unmarked. I haven’t seen this behavior before and sounds unlikely to be from an ecological process. I know you say you are using the same number of sites but do you have NAs in any covariate? If it is dropping any observations the AIC would be incomparable.
