#6: Fable: TLC by Lionhead Studios

Strengths: World, NPC monologues & music. Rather than being dark/high fantasy, it's more like a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Combat is shallow, too many fetch quests & many mechanics feel gimmicky but I can see why it was unique at the time & is remembered fondly.

Incredible work by @minnmax.com & @giantbomb.bsky.social. Wow.

The new Fable showcase, plus the fact my wife has been telling me to play it for years since it was a favorite from her childhood, has led me to finally playing this classic for the first time. Let's see if it lives up to the hype.

I'll be honest, while I would've absolutely preferred it got the Prime 1 remaster treatment, I'm just excited to be able to play Echoes without having to use an emulator haha.

#5: Trepang² by Trepang Studios

This game is a love letter to the classic horror FPS F.E.A.R. & in some respects, it delivers. Frantic shootouts with over the top particle effects/gore are a blast. Story is meh & not as spooky/atmospheric as it's inspiration. More weapon variety would've been nice.

Real ones play Days of the Old Republic first ✊

Don't me wrong, I'm excited for Resident Evil Requiem. But something seems...off.

The aggressive branding deals. The hush-hush nature until Leon's reveal. The idea of 2 completely different toned gameplay segments being stitched together rather than 2 separate campaigns. Feels weird but I'm hopeful

#4: Metroid Dread by Mercury Steam

This game took just as long to 100% as Prime 4 but went by twice as fast, & I mean that in the best way.

Brisk pacing, tight controls, great level design & some really fun bosses. Only mark against it are the E.M.M.I encounters.

Otherwise, S-Tier Metroidvania

Metroid: Dread would be nearly perfect if it wasn't for the stupid fucking E.M.M.I sequences.

#3: Dead Letter Dept. by Mike Monroe

I see the vision, but it just didn't work for me.

Well made game & has a great atmosphere but the scares started to wear off by hour 2 & the gameplay isn't deep enough to carry me through more playthroughs. Still worth checking out if you like indie horror.

Trepang² is such a throwback to the John Woo inspired, chaotic shootouts of F.E.A.R. & I'm so here for it.

2nd game beaten for the year is "Hell Is Us" by Rogue Factor.

This game had me locked in for the first 2 acts. Unique world, harrowing depiction of war, great puzzle solving & exploration. Combat felt sloppy but was serviceable. Act 3 does fall flat for me but I can definitely still recommend. 👍
