In 1883, as the Republican Party moved into full-throated support for the industrialists who were concentrating the nation’s wealth into their own hands while factory workers stayed above the poverty ...
One of the things that...must be renewed every year...is veterans’ benefits, and yesterday Jeff Schogol of Task and Purpose noted “a growing chorus” calling for cuts to Veterans Affairs disability benefits after The Economist...called (them) “absurdly generous.”

Poster with black and white image of a shirtless skinny white person with a beard, moustache and balck cap sitting on the lap of a tattooed, shirtless skinny white person with short dark hair who is sitting in an advanced wheelchair. Behind them are photos on a white wall. The text reads: DISBAILITY JUSTICE AND QUEER CRIP ART CURATION With Author and Curator Kenny Fries. 23.01.2025. Begins at 4PM | Dunton Tower 2017, Carleton University. In partnership with the Department of History, Cultural Mediations, and the School for Studies
in Art and Culture, join Kenny Fries for an evening discussing the intersections between queer and disability histories. We will explore depictions of "the perfect body" in queer communities,
and how individuals who identify as both queer and disabled have been integrating these histories through art. MORE INFORMATION: FIONNUALABRAUN@CMAIL.CARLETON.CA

Anyone else on here have a disability that makes consistent work impossible? I don’t know how to get rid of the ableist expectations I have of myself.

Healthcare companies literally monetize death, disability, illness etc. How about those rules apply to them?

DEIB is under attack. From companies scaling back their commitments to regressive legislation threatening equity, the rights of marginalized communities—and the progress we’ve fought for—are at risk. #DEIB #Disability Check out my article on @linkedin.com

“Obviously, because of my disability, I need assistance. But I have always tried to overcome the limitations of my condition and lead as full a life as possible. I have traveled the world... - Hawking
In this quote, Stephen Hawking reflects on the challenges and achievements of his life, demonstrating his resilience and determination in the face of motor neurone disease (ALS). Despite the severe physical limitations imposed by his condition, which left him almost completely paralyzed, Hawking’s statement emphasizes his refusal to be defined by his disability. Disability can often be seen as a barrier, but Hawking’s words underscore his belief that one’s spirit, intellect, and determination can transcend such physical constraints. This mindset allowed him to continue his groundbreaking work in theoretical physics while living a life full of adventure and exploration.

Advocates Rally at Grace Lore’s Office Demanding Government Raise Disability Benefits
No rally is too small to be worth media coverage, especially when the cause is good and underreported. Let's talk about legislated poverty today.
A small group of advocates rallied at Grace Lore's office to exhort the provincial government to “raise the rates” of disability benefits for recipients reduced to living in legislated poverty at the peak of a housing crisis that shuts them out of market rentals.

A push to cut veterans disability benefits is gaining traction, experts warn
Many Americans don’t understand how difficult it is for veterans to prove that their health conditions stem from their military service.

I've been testing my article engagement now that Bluesky and Threads are more of a factor. I used the same posts I've used on Instagram, Facebook, and Mastodon, posted at approximately the same time. Two week campaigns for two articles. One on Pop Culture, one on Disability 🧵

This is the second article I’ve read this week with this rhetoric. Even though I was not a combat veteran, the Army destroyed my body and mind. If I lose my disability benefits I will lose everything. And I’m just one of millions in the same position.
