Nocturne seascape, islands and land in the misty distance. Dark cloudy skies. Painted in mixed greys using ultramarine blue and burnt umber. Final glazes use a transparent slate pigment.

Using galkyd for the first time. It dries so fast it's forcing me to make more decisive brush strokes. It's taking some getting used to but hopefully it helps me stop overworking. Trying to embrace a more place and leave it approach.

Blue skies and calm waters. The past few days have been beautiful. Gotta enjoy them when they're given. They're little bit of peace to recharge your soul in the midst of the dumpster fire.

A color finding challenge for me. Are those darks umbery, purpley, need more greysh tone? Ended up using value and warms vs cools. This exercise was a learning experience.

Cloudscape

Working on varying brushwork more and working on a toned canvas. I toned it a pinky purple.

I used just linseed oil to keep it simple. It started as alla prima but I did a follow up session to tweak values. Trying to get to a place to work plein air.

I also added a label on Google maps. It now shows Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America) now for me when I look it up instead of just Gulf of America.

This one felt it took forever. Idk if it's the paper, pencils, or both. The Lyra pencils feel on the harder side.

I painted an undertone of grey with acrylic ink on hot press paper and then added a layer of pastel ground to draw on. It holds lots of layers.
