I have long declared that Josh Johnson is a national treasure

I was wrong. He is a treasure for all humanity!!

You absolutely MUST watch this - Josh summarizes the terrifying reality of the fascist takeover of the United States better than anyone in three minutes

Well, I’m gonna insist that you listen to this.

Definition of terms:

β€œthese people” = Latino migrants

β€œInner city people” = Black people

β€œWe tried to get them [inner city people] to do it” = slavery & sharecropping

Refreshed vaccinations (COVID + measles) right before our summer trip, just to have that "active" protection (COVID) for a few weeks. In this RFK-age, make sure your measles vaccination is good as well πŸ™ƒ.

The General Theory of Enshittification It isn’t a new phenomenon, but it seems to matter more

As software developers we are well-aware of #enshittification. Here is (my favorite) economist @pkrugman.bsky.social ‬'s take on the subject. And +πŸ’― for: "Twitter is a somewhat different story, but this post is about enshittification, not Nazification".

This is excellent. In three minutes she explains how democracies become dictatorships. It's happened so many times, yet in each country, most people said, 'it can't happen here'

It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.

As promised, in light of the WaPo report of Everglades camp detainees being swarmed by mosquitoes in the shower and unable to sleep at night due to being bitten, I want to briefly address concentration camp history and mosquitoes. I won't be comprehensive but will give a few examples. [1/17]

πŸƒ #Spring Framework 7.0 will provide built-in support for pausing & restarting unused application contexts between test classes.

This ensures that background processes in the context are not actively running while the context is not used by tests. πŸ‘πŸ»

For perspective: a recent study suggested that economic savings from just a *single* well-predicted hurricane, thanks to NOAA research advancements, are on order of *$5 billion.* That exceeds NOAA's *entire proposed annual operating budget.* So much for government efficiency.

I hate to sounds like a pessimist, but we're cooked.

Sure, you can do the extra work of searching, verifying, etc for each video you come across, but people aren't going to do that.

If we cannot distinguish reality from AI, how can we trust anything at all?

The latest version of the Senate's BBB is a death sentence for US energy leadership and a giant gift to China.

It eliminates tax cuts for solar that have been around since 2005, adds a new tax on solar after 2027, and creates a new direct subsidy for coal.
