Triptych showing Ninumbeehan in its palaeoenvironment across seasons. First:Ninumbeehan resting on the edge of a river with a low water table as the rainy season ends. Second: A small community of Ninumbeehan in their estivation burrows during the peak of the arid season. Third: The beginning of the rainy season triggering a mass emergence from their estivation burrows (some individuals would not have made it through the estivation period and would have died in their burrows)

Last week saw the description of a REALLY cool burrowing temnospondyl from Late Triassic North America called Ninumbeehan dookoodukah

I was lucky enough to be commissioned to illustrate this amazing species in a triptych showing it in its environment across season

Dukecynus snarls at a group of vultures approaching it's ground sloth kill

A Dukecynus ( a sparassodont) snarls at a group of vultures (Brasilogyps.sp) that await their feeding turn, once the marsupialiform is done with its ground sloth kill.

On yesterdays #paleostream we discovered the beauty that is Onychodus jaw mechanics.
After stream I tried to make sense of it and animated how I understand it.
Funny stuff.

Adeilosmilus kabir (a sabertooth cat) confronts a scavenging Afrocyon (a beardog)

Early Pliocene Africa-
A beachcombing Afrocyon is confronted the gigantic felid, Adeilosmilus kabir, in a desperate attempt to keep its prize, the beardog drags its meal to a safer location, the 359kg+ felid is clearly not amused by this act.
