Oh goodness, how kind! NEV was definitely a passion project. Amid the bioethical and capitalist commentary, it was very important to me that it struck a heartfelt message at its core. I'm very pleased that a lot of readers like you picked up on that, and largely satisfied with it as a story!

The imagery and poetic rhythm of this one feels like a children’s rhyme being chanted underwater. The premise is really fun to scratch: hey what if you believed in God so hard you became one?

She's in eight grade, so of course she didn't word it exactly like that but that was the gist of her argument and I couldn't be prouder. This coming from a girl who told me on her first day that she doesn't like to read.

Btw she then proceeded to write an essay about how the tragedy of J+H is that Jekyll wants the advantages of being a good person but fundamentally misunderstands that all good people actively make the decision to choose right things, which means to be good he also needs some bad in him.

Props to my eight grade student who angrily said that if Dr. Jekyll wanted to be a good person so badly, he should have just been a better friend or donated to charity instead of taking a shortcut. Based.

Fantastic. Will be keeping my eyes peeled for a similar bottle.
