There's a real sense of adventure, even when the Athena is docked at the Academy. The audience gets to learn about the broader state of the quadrant through the eyes of the cadets. It's a perfect example of "show, don't tell".

What's amazing to me about #StarfleetAcademy is that it manages to capture the vibe of the "wild west cowboy diplomacy" era of TOS, which they've been trying to do forever with prequels and hanging back in the timeline.
What the franchise actually needed was to go forward. It's really refreshing.
