And now I've misspelt Phil Kay's name, I guess we never will be friends. Ah well

I used to see Scottish comedian Phil Kaye a lot when I lived in the west end of Glasgow. He was a beardy longhair, as was I and most of my friends, so each time, I'd recognise him and do the same sequence of facial expressions: oh hi friend! Wait, no, that's Phil Kaye. Aw, I've done it again!

Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).

Atoms are binary. They are either intended to be hydrogen or helium. We can't just scrap this worldview just because of a handful of exceptions

An A5 size drawing of harvest mice in a wheat field. The mice are climbing stalks of wheat. The artwork is in browns, beige and peachy tones. It is on peach toned pastel paper.
Harvest mice are Britainโ€™s smallest rodent, weighing only 4-6 grams. In the British Isles, harvest mice are mainly found south of central Yorkshire, although they do also occur in Scotland and Wales.
An original art work, please note that the frame is not included.

This is the only hand embroidery on wallpaper full image artwork I have ever made. I love it but it was incredibly fragile to make. I've only shown it a couple of times because I couldn't part with it, but it is in my webshop.

Damn. This is amazing. ยฃ325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Nothing says "I'm a generic-looking white guy" like opening a game's character creation screen, seeing the default option, and, without making any changes, going, "yeah, that's pretty close" (although, that might say more about what some games consider "default" than it does about me...)

We watched House of the Long Shadows tonight. Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing - how could we say no? Very silly but a lot of fun - and surprisingly gory in places, for something made in a rather Hammer Films style

Philosophical conundrum: if a horror zine would reject Nightmare on Elm St, Seven, the Exorcist, the Omen, Frankenstein, Dracula, and every M. R. James story, is it still a horror zine?

Iain Banks: the final interview Iain Banks died last Sunday, just before the publication of his final novel The Quarry. Last month he talked to Stuart Kelly about writing, politics and all the things still left to do . . .

โ€œI mean, your societyโ€™s broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No letโ€™s blame the people with no power & no money & these immigrants who donโ€™t even have the vote, yeah it must be their fucking fault.โ€
