"When you take a step back and think about traffic violence in New York City, you start to understand that this is a systemic issue that is incentivized by the policies that we have in place with regard to the design of our streets and what kind of vehicles we allow to be on our roads." -Mamdani

Graphic full of stats on vehicle inefficiencies.

Graphic full of stats on vehicle inefficiencies.

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

Halifax has removed the final hurdle to development in some areas β€” and neighbours are fighting back | CBC News A wealthy Halifax neighbourhood with tree-lined streets and grand homes on the Northwest Arm has become one of the latest battlegrounds in the city’s push to build more housing.

If these rich assholes want to keep their covenant, the city should slap a "pay through the nose for single family home density downtown" area rate on downtown's mansion district.

When Bikes Outnumber Cars: What Scotland’s Cycling Surge Can Teach North America Scotland’s largest city reached a milestone that would make any transportation planner in Portland, or Montreal do a double take.

It’s common sense to proactively address/mitigate climate change.

It’s common sense to reduce pollution, emissions and particulates in cities.

It’s common sense to proactively cool cities, quiet cities, clean cities.

It’s common sense to move more people in less space and with lower public costs.

Instead of trying to green cars so much why don't we just invest in trains. city trains. under ground trains. above ground trains. trains between cities. trains between countries. TRAINS

Can someone please tell Carney?? VIA Rail is a public service and should have its own rail line and high frequency, some high speed, passenger rail service across the country. Should be one of his top priority nation-building projects.

I know I’ve said this more than once, and I know it’s really obvious, but taking the train between cities in Europe is just fantastic. So easy.

One of the dumbest mistakes North America ever made, and continues to make, is doing so relatively little with trains. Train networks are nation-building.

Heaven forbid we make a downtown fit for the thousands of people who take transit, walk or bike around it.
Might entice cruise ship passengers into it too.

Remember this when people quote collision data and say that "speed isn't a factor" so reducing the speed limit won't positively affect road safety. It's always a factor, despite what the police write in their incident report.

Sanity says: β€œif there is a risk that the AMOC is weakening and heading towards a tipping point, we need to act on that (just like with other major risks). This is not an issue where we can afford to wait until we are certain, or pretend it’s just an academic discussion without major consequences.”
