Today MPs will vote on the amended welfare bill.
MPs who choose to walk through the lobby and support this bill are paving the way for at least 150,000 people to be pulled into poverty.
Here are just 3 reasons why they should oppose this bill from @katieschmuecker.bsky.social π½
Blimey, these Labour proposals on PIP & UC are dire. But listening to Badenoch speak, Tories are terrifying - the idea of "deserving" & "undeserving". Only evidence to present - Taxpayers Alliance! Give me strength. Thankfully not in power, but mustn't be distracted into thinking this bill is good.
01.07.2025 13:28 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Maskell is cutting through to the root of problem, our economic model. We must tax the super rich to enable the rest of us to live good lives.
01.07.2025 13:38 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 1 π 3"They matter for being, not just doing". This is important for all citizens, our existence is not to merely make money for others. The state could enable us to care for ourselves, one another & the planet.
Maskell's speech is worth finding it is beautiful.
Crucial intercession from Rachel Maskell, bringing the care, humanity & voices of those who are being used as political footballs.
The price of disability is Β£1500 per month, support from social security is crucial to prevent real dependence on food banks & charity.
Diane Abbott: "As a Labour govt we should be helping & supporting disabled people, not taking money away from them"
01.07.2025 13:52 β π 35 π 14 π¬ 0 π 1And from @debbieabrahamsmp.bsky.social too who says we need to stop viewing those who aren't able to take on work with suspicion and that the proposed changes are being driven by an appeal to the OBR toplines
01.07.2025 13:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Welfare Reform Bill debate is hard watching but the amendment from Maskell & her framing that we all matter and are deserving is more important now than ever
01.07.2025 13:43 β π 4 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0We at Care Full will be following the debate on the UC & PIP Bill closely, join us. Before that we explore some of the language & framing that is being used to obscure the devastation this bill will cause. π§΅

Our co-founder Ruth is in LBC today sharing our thoughts on tomorrow's Spending Review and Carers Week. Moving towards a caring economy is urgent work and it could start tomorrow (call us optimists!)...
10.06.2025 10:18 β π 9 π 5 π¬ 1 π 0Guardian headline reading 'Our Β£5bn disability benefits cut will stop welfare state collapsing, says Kendall' with 'will stop' crossed out in red and replaced with handwriting reading 'is the' so that the headline now reads 'Our Β£5bn disability benefits cut is the welfare state collapsing, says Kendall'
Liz Kendall says proposed PIP cuts will save the welfare state, but we think it's a sign it's already in trouble.
It's time to return to foundations that enable our systems of support to thrive; investment over cuts, support over conditionality.
What could a compassionate welfare state look like?
β¦ from economic inactivity to skilled labour, hard working families to the benefits system weβll take aim at those phrases that arenβt what they first seem.
Our first ep will drop in May!

The day to day language we use to talk about the economy upholds is unfair and unequal design. So weβre launching Words of Affirmation!
Each week weβll demystify and dismantle the words affirming our economic modelβ¦
We need UBS: a universal, publicly funded system of essential services, free at the point of use and organised around human need.
This should range from a Public Food Service to free local transport, a revitalised care system and much more beyond π

"Government cuts put unpaid carers at risk of losing income of Β£1.2-Β£1.7bn, with nearly half of the loss on top of figures announced so far"
π’ New analysis of cuts π’
We estimate unpaid carers are at risk of losing between Β£1.2bn β Β£1.7bn in income as a direct result of changes to PIP eligibility announced this week.
The green paper fails to fully engage with the scale of its devastation with much of this on top of Β£5bn announced π§΅
Join us- this will be an inspiring and care filled evening.

We challenge the 5 big falsehoods underpinning cutsβ¦π§΅
If anyone is taking the mickey itβs gotta be those scapegoating disabled people & people managing health conditions.
We have to resist this narrative that you are only deserving of compassion and support if you can take on paid work. We are all individually and collectively so much more than that.
At Care Full we support the #SafeSickPay campaign from @progressivechange.bsky.social.
For unpaid carers the fear of becoming ill is acute; it not only affects the practical aspects of care but the financial too.
Our latest blog has more on the need for change carefulleconomy.co.uk/2025/02/07/c...
The text 'economic growth on a wing and a prayer' with an image of an aeroplane and the Care Full logo
You can read our full response to the announcements and research here: carefulleconomy.co.uk/2025/01/29/e...
29.01.2025 15:25 β π 2 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Red square image with the text 'On the day JRF find 28% of unpaid carers are living in poverty the government made a series of big economic announcements. But, rather than centring parts of our economy that have a tangible impact on our lives the Chancellor brought commitments drawn from a dangerously outdated playbook. We're stuck in a cycle rewarding big business, hoping on a wing and a prayer one day it will show up in our everyday lives."
The Chancellor's announcements today centre airport expansion and football stadiums over engagement with the devastating levels of poverty @jrf-uk.bsky.social are reporting in the here and now. At Care Full we're hopeful change is possible, but we need radically more ambitious ideas to get there.
29.01.2025 15:25 β π 4 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Economic inactivity has many causes, but the term itself is biased, suggesting unpaid work doesnβt contribute to the economy. Itβs essential to recognise that paid employment isnβt the only form of contribution and to value unpaid work for its vital role in supporting society and the economy.
